If you are involved in an ROTC program, does that prevent you from applying to programs of studying abroad for a semester or even a year? Or is this another thing that depends on the ROTC program and school that you are in?

Thanks.

'Rangers Lead the Way' = Army ROTC?

For AROTC summer study abroad is encouraged, Army may pay some/all if you are a strong cadet. During the regular school yr, study abroad will be strongly discouraged, unless it is a requirement of your approved major.
multiple summers abroad are also a possibility for very strong candidates, adding classwork/major or minor in a critical language is a major benifit - Adds promotion points, extra pay while in ROTC etc.,

CULP Link

You were definitely right about AROTC. I checked out the link regarding CULP, it was full of a lot of new info, and I'm not sure if I would have found it myself.

Thanks for the quick response!

If your planning on Rangers as an officer - study one of the critical languages, the big 5 are;
Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Pashto/Farsi, Persian.
Or Russian, which is the lingua franca for much of Asia and the Middle East.

not sure I concur with the strongly discouraged comment. Cadet, I think your first statement was correct about it depending on the ROTC Battalion. We have had cadets spend a semester in New Zealand, Kenya, and England in recent years. None of these semesters abroad were discouraged. What is advised is that you plan your semester abroad so that it doesn't hinder your preparation for LDAC. Sophomore year would probably be the best year to fit a semester abroad into your plan. CULP is definitely another option. At Clarkson our Business Majors have a required international program, and they offer 3 week trips abroad during the summer to fulfill that requirement.

At Marist College, you are more likely to study abroad then not study abroad.
It is highly encouraged.
