What should I purchase in advance for when the academic year starts? My parents are willing to mail the items. Shower caddies (are showers communal or per room)? Small storage bins? Desk organizers? A small shoe rack? What am i allowed to have and not have? I can't seem to find this information in the admissable packets. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Defer decisions on this until you are settled in a room with roommates, know the regulations, know what’s enforced, what you actually need and what your roommates might have or need or agree to. Don’t be in a rush to acquire more stuff, because you will have to figure it out what to with it at the end of the academic year. There are some decisions which are perfectly fine if they are made in just-in-time mode. There is always Amazon, the post exchange when you are allowed to use it and parental support. In the meantime, collect insights snd recommendations, then see what makes sense for you down the road.

I'm a parent of a AFA grad. 1st of all congratulations! Next, don't stress over this...there will be plenty of time to make a list of stuff to buy when the time comes...it will all fall into place. Enjoy the next few weeks...take your parents out to dinner!;)

Communal showers and rest assured that USMA has a designated space for every item you own. No need to worry about shoe racks or storage bins.

You will be able to pickup any miscellaneous items needed at the Cadet Store/PX/Off post stores. Beyond that it is best to wait until you get to your academic year company - each company can have different rules/customs.

USNA mom here - follow the advice here. Wait until you settle in and know the rules. Looking back to last summer - I foolishly had boxes lined up in the dining room PACKED with"stuff" I though he might need. Then I got the letter - "I appreciate everything but please stop - I don't have the space or time to enjoy these things." Best of luck to you and enjoy these last few weeks.
