Submitting SAT scores?

Hi everyone,

This may seem like a dumb question but can I submit my SAT scores now even though I haven't started the application yet? (I'm a junior). I just wanted to ask since I can still send my scores for free. Thanks for any advice/help!

I would think so. It certainly shouldn't hurt to put their code in, unless you have a bad test day.

If you go that route and have extra spots to fill, many MOCs have separate codes to send them official test scores. Yours might as well, and it would save the cash come nomination application time.

Thanks! Would this also apply to an ROTC scholarship application?

You get 4 free slots. Going through the full process could require 10+ (multiple SA, multiple MOC, multiple ROTC, multiple colleges with ROTC, etc)
You may want to confirm which ones safely store those records for a year, so you dont waste them.

The colleges should do so, I would hope. I have no idea about the MOCs, ROTC selection boards, etc.

I would suggest starting the applications at least as far as identifying yourself. You don't have to submit the entire application. I don't know if this really matters but I would do that much to be safe and not rely on them keeping a score for a "non-applicant". That's just me though. You would need to look at primary sources (eg their respective web sites) to get a definitive answer.

Feel free to submit the scores before starting the app. When USNA (or NROTC) gets a score report on someone that they haven's seen a preliminary application from, they open up a file as this is a clear indication that an application is probable. Simply speaking, it is an indication of interest and if your scores are suitable, it gets them interested in YOU. Many/most colleges are the same in this regard. If they suddenly get a score report of 1500 from a student that they had not heard from previously, most will try very hard to get into contact with you.

Thank you! Great to hear since I emailed some people from admissions but am still waiting for an answer.

Considering I got a 1430 (680 R/W, 750 Math), should I go ahead and send my scores, or wait until I get a better score? Thanks!

You're certainly not going to hurt yourself by sending them. USNA will file them and if you retake, they "superscore" and take the highest of all of your scores in each category. Thus if you retake and get the opposite scores, USNA will regard you as a 750/750 M/Eng

Would it help if I also submitted my previous SAT scores, which were lower, but included the essay? Once again thank you so much for the help!

Decent scores .... send them.

Our daughter had very decent scores on her 1st attempt in early 2018, and I told her that there was really no point in taking the tests again, which is not the general message that seems to come from admissions .... Well, for whatever reason, she was communicating with the NoVA BGO area lead, and somewhere she mentioned to him about my decent scores comment to her, and no point in taking the test again. His response to her was “well ... Always do your best”. I thought it was so cute when she told me that. I’ll never forget that moment.
