Suggestions For Improvement

I really need some help here.I am a 10th grader who has a 22 composite score on the ACT.
I took this last summer JULY 2020
22 composite
17 math
21 science
23 english
26 reading
I am looking for some free prep since I am on a limited budget.
My GPA is high and I am CAP cadet 2nd LT so the act is my only weak area.
3.875 gpa
March2Success is a decent no-cost test prep tool. It’s run by the Army and provides test prep and flash cards for no cost.

Uh, no advice from me. Maybe practice your interviewing skills for next year? Otherwise, you sound golden. Good luck!

Take the SAT (twice if possible) on your own even if everyone in your school normally takes the ACT. (Take the ACT twice as well). My DS did way better on the SAT than on the ACT. Khan Academy helped him increase his score too. You mentioned being on a limited budget, talk to your counselor, they sometimes get waivers for the fees of those tests. If not, take them regardless, you wouldn't want to be ruled out of a 400K scholarship and experience of a lifetime because you didn't want to pay the SAT/ACT fee and only have one mediocre score to submit. Good luck!

I am applying for USNA class of 2026 ( currently a junior in high school ), and I have been working hard to give myself the best chance to get into the academy. It is my dream to attend the academy, and I will do whatever it takes to get there! I was wondering if anyone has any advice or idea on things I could improve on. Here is where I am at :
-4.0 Weighted GPA ( my school does not go higher )
-All core classes are AP
-Self taught over the summer/skipped Algebra 2 and Chemistry ( I am now in AP Calc and AP Bio)
-Varsity Girls Soccer, Varsity Girls Lacrosse, I also play basketball but due to Covid-19 I did not get chance to tryout for varsity
-I have had a job for 3 years at a ski lodge as an instructor, I worked as a camp counselor in past years and also volunteered there, I also worked at as a pool attendant this summer
-I do a lot of babysitting, dog walking and odd jobs in my neighborhood
- I run a snow-shoveling business in my neighborhood that with the help of my 5 employees helps over 20 elderly homes with snow removal ( 5 years )
- I ran free lacrosse clinics 2X a week (~4.5 hours a week) , every week over the summer to teach girls how to play and offer physical activities during Covid-19
-PSAT of 1190 taken last fall (2019, no study), I am scheduled to take it in a few weeks but it will likely be cancelled due to Covid-19
-I have tutored Geometry and Algebra 2, and am currently looking for another tutee for the spring semester
-I am starting a Tennis Club with my friend
-CFA wise I can probably run a 7 min mile at best right now, I can max out at 55 pushups, only 1 pull up, max out situps, and have not touched on the shuttle run or basketball throw yet.
-Won an Outstanding Admiral Award last year
-I am in a Science Research class, which is a 2 year class that only accepted 10 students from my class of 800.
-I am in top 10% of my class, ranked ~80.
-My grades are a mix of As and Bs - all classes are at least honors if not AP
-Senior Year I am planning on taking 5/6 AP classes.
- I have a few college credits for Engineering and next semester I will (hopefully) earn 4 more for computer science/programming.

I appreciate any and all help! Thank you for your time and wisdom. ( I submitted my NASS application a few days ago :) )
1. Be extremely careful with the essays. Have the journalism teacher review it. Know the difference between cadets-midshipmen; soldiers-sailors, naval-navel, 2LT-Ensign.
2. CFA. 0530 hours- gym time & track. 6:30 min mile time. Weight training. Push-up, Pull-ups, Crunches.
3. SAT (ACT). Line-up three consecutive TESTs in a row. SAs will super-score. Aim for 1400. Ok to hire a brilliant physicist as a tutor.
4. EC. Be proud and let the SAs of accomplishments.
5. Parallel planning for Alternative career move-ROTC, Ivy’s.

You look to have a solid resume. I would caution you not to skip Chemistry. USNA looks at Chemistry and Math (Calculus preferred) very carefully during the application process. They consider what level course was taken vs. what was available, grades and standard test scores (math). Dont underestimate the importance of doing optimum (not passing) the CFA. Good luck.

Great credentials so far! Other than what has already been said, I would reiterate what DrStrangeLove said and recommend AP Chem over AP Physics. Plebe chemistry is a killer at USNA. If you can place out of Plebe Chem even better but since you self studied Chem, definitely want to make sure your foundation is really solid to go ahead with college Chem. If you have room in your schedule then add AP Physics. Physics is a a youngster class. I would focus on Chem.

I only want to add that for the basketball throw, you need to focus on technique. You say you haven’t really thought about it, but here’s something to keep in mind for when you do.

I throw on the track team, and some of the basic form there transfers pretty easily to the BB throw. Maybe look up some YouTube videos on the block arm in shot put / discus. That’s what I found helpful when doing the BB throw. I can’t really get into specifics here, but technique is super important! If you don’t throw on the track team, maybe this won’t help you whatsoever. But there are videos on YouTube on BB throw techniques too.

You spoke the same words my guidance counselor said! I want to take AP Physics but I feel more and more Chem would solidify my transcript. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Thank you! I will definitely look to youtube to find the best technique and work on that.
