Many rising and eventual service academy and college ROTC candidates will not have the opportunity this summer to attend SA programs, STEM camps, Boys/Girls State, other enrichment and development programs.

My alma mater asked alumni to share info on summer online experiences, so I have copied it below. Along with creative use of time and resources during an unprecedented time of regular living pattern disruption, this could be a way of stretching the mind.

Wake Forest University
PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS
WFU Pre-College Programs
Pre-college students across the country are realizing that many of the summer activities they look forward to most — camp, travel, summer jobs/internships, volunteer work, and mission trips — are canceled for this summer. If you know of a motivated, middle, or high school student who is looking for something meaningful to participate in this summer, please share this opportunity with them! We are currently accepting applications for both programs.

Summer Exploration Program — Online Experience:

The Summer Exploration Program offers rising 7th – rising 9th grade students the opportunity to investigate STEM topics while engaging in live learning sessions with Wake Forest staff and discussions with like-minded peers from across the country. By participating in the program, students will have the opportunity to:

Explore the world of ecosystems through the challenge of a digital escape room
Discover DNA’s impact on biodiversity with an at-home DNA extraction
Learn about the impact of sustainability as they design and build their own farmscape
Study energy and its multiple forms as they engineer a complete circuit
Explore with us this summer for just $400.

Summer Immersion Program — Online Experience:

The Summer Immersion Program offers high school students the opportunity to explore a career pathway or field of study, virtually, this summer. Students will network and engage with experienced professionals, participate in online simulations and labs, and discuss relevant topics that interest them most. This summer we are offering 13 institutes:

Biosciences and Engineering
Business
Debate and Public Advocacy
Health and Exercise Science
Health and Wellbeing
Law
Leadership
Medicine
Neuroscience
Policy and Politics
Sports Marketing
Technology
Tuition for the Summer Immersion Program ranges from $700-$995.

Thank you for posting this Capt MJ. Ironically, I just spoke to my rising Sr. DD about adding Wake to her list of schools. We live in the center of the country and she is not familiar with WF.

We were talking about how best to utilize her time this summer since Girls State, NASS, SLE, Cyber Internship all cancelled. I will share this info with her. You add so much value to this forum. Thank you!

You are most welcome. I loved it there, right size, right fit for me. Chose it over some others that would probably surprise people.

Tell her to explore the Guy T. Carswell Scholarship. Wake has a strong family of merit scholarships.
