Anyone have knowledge to whether the NROTC scholarship covers any summer coursework taken?

My son may want to take a college class/session after CORTRAMID this summer and it got me wondering about costs & coverage.

the midshipman should discuss this with his Navy academic advisor and unit. Not all summer coursework is approved by every unit-- long story short - it depends. Some don't/ some may. Also does he have a 4 year plan approved by a navy adviser? I'd make sure this is expressly approved so you're not surprised. GL.

Thank you @Herman_Snerd. While helpful to know the policy (from the ROD), it is so critical for mids to start the conversation early with their unit advisor.

As an aside, depending on the university, you may need approval from the department head in mids current school, if you plan on taking classes at a different school. I don't know if that is the plan, but I know my mid was able to fit in a class at another university in summer, but had to get approval from her current school. Also, the grade did not apply to her gpa!

+1 to anonmom.

DS has been unable to get approval from his out-of-state public U for ANY courses taken at a local public U of equal reputation. Certainly not in his major, but not even an Anthro/liberal arts course needed for U broad spectrum requirements.

DS decided to enroll anyways (3C summer, after CORTRAMID, he was West/1st of 2 sessions) and prep for anticipated hardest class. Best he could do to make ~20 credit hour semester a wee bit easier if he couldn’t get one of the courses out of the way.

My mid took an orgo chem 2 class at local college after cortramid, but started it late due to cortramid, no grade able to transfer, but at least it hopefully will make it easier this semester when it is in her school schedule. Good luck

My DS has a 4-year plan and yes, in conversation with his MO and receives regular review & approval. I was looking for personal feedback and history on any successes. There is also a change in leadership happening this spring, so hopeful for continuity. For ease in timing, this may end up in another summer or J-term perhaps.

Thanks for the replies.
