Summer Seminar 2013!

Just putting this out there for those who may have missed it:
We have a Summer Seminar Facebook Group.

I just don't want anyone to miss out on the discussions if you missed the post about the group several pages back.

what is field training

sorry clueless,
but would appreciate some answers :)how many AF ROTC get accepted to attend field training?
Are they notified well in advance and if so is there many classes thru out summer?
How are they selected?
Do they no matter what do have to attend field training the summer before their sophomore year starts ?

thanks for help :)

I was not selected. I feel like my dreams and plans have all been crushed.

I wasn't accepted to Summer Seminar, but was accepted to USAFA the following year (and coincidentally worked SS as a cadet my firstie summer). Definitely not the end of the world.

Didn't get into the Summer Seminar?

Hello everyone,
I have been skimming this forum reading through the mix of acceptance and disappointing refusal. Just a little bit of insight, DO NOT LET THIS GET YOU DOWN. Acceptance to SS is by no means acceptance to the academy, and denial of SS is CERTAINLY NOT denial of admissions. Over 3500 applied and only 600 were selected.

With that being said, I am an appointee to the USAFA Class of 2017 and I was NOT selected for SS last summer. It is possible, and even likely, that many people denied will still receive appointments.

Keep working, never give up. SS is just a step along the way, and is not the end of the road.

Good luck everyone!

21 Days until Session A! Eek! I'm so excited, it's crazy!

27 Until Session B! I still can't believe I'm actually visiting this place, it doesn't seem real yet.

All you session A people are going to have to give the B people the scoop :shake:

Congrats to everyone going to Summer Seminar! Make sure to ask TONS of questions to cadets that you meet. I'd also encourage you to go out of your way to meet some of other element leaders. For me, getting to know a handful of cadets was the best part of Summer Seminar, and I kept in touch with a number of them through my first and second applications.

Good luck and safe travels to everyone going to Session A today!

Summer Seminar is not a guarantee that you will get accepted to the Academy. I went to the USCGA and Naval Academy Summer Seminars and only got accepted to the USCGA Prep School. I did attend the Diversity Program at the USAFA in November and received my Letter of Appointment in early February. Summer Seminars are mostly for you (yourselves) to get a feel for Academy life and to know within your heart that this is what you want to do. I attended the SS's with a number of people who realized when it was over that this is not what they thought it would be like and did not want any part of an Academy life style.

I just wanted to put a quick note on here for those who are going to SS this summer. After it is over and you have left USAFA, give it a few days to settle before you decide whether you think USAFA might be for you.

I went to SS (all the way back in the summer of 2007, wow...) and as soon as I left, I thought, there is no way in the world I will EVER go here. I would have stayed with that decision if I hadn't gotten a call from the tennis coach a few days later that got me thinking about it again. I realized the things I disliked could be overcome and I loved the overall feeling and environment, it just took some time. Now 6 years later I have spent a year as a graduate and I can honestly say I really did have a great experience at USAFA.

Asks questions, keep an open mind, and give yourself time to think about the real reasons behind any perceived pros and cons

Please above all have a great time my DS attended SS back in 2007. He didn't go to an SA or ROTC. At the time, he was highly sought after USAFA and Navy ROTC. He applied to Penn State, Florida Tech, MIT and Embry Riddle. He could have gone to ERAU for almost nothing and decided on Penn State. He earned a degree in Physics, Astrophysics with a math minor. He is now a teacher at a private prep school in the south. He says every time, we speak, I like my job, but hate the kids. I told me that is contradiction. Which he does not understand. After being out of school for a year, he still thinks he owed something. Hopefully, what I have said will enlighten some of you, because you want to be what I term has part of the best of the best. He has a lot to learn. Keep us posted on your experience.

Best of luck,

RGK
