Summer Seminar 2014

Thanks for easing my worries with the personal statement. I'm from Colorado and have strong test scores (201 PSAT, 2020 SAT - first try), so there still may be hope. I'm looking forward to the CVW and have already accepted USMA SLE Session 1 as well. Should I notify USNA that I can now only attend their sessions 1 and 3 because of SLE?

I would update admissions if you have a true conflict and know you cannot attend a specific session.
When accepted, you will be assigned to a session. If you cannot attend that session once assigned, you will be placed on the waiting list for another session. But you may not get in from the wait list. A lot of people want to go.

Hi all! I just submitted my NASS application and was wondering how much the SAT/ACT/PSAT scores are weighted throughout the application process? My SAT scores are definitely higher than my PSAT scores (which I took with a stomach flu last fall) but they are not high enough to be deemed competitive, unfortunately. If every other aspect of my application seems strong, will a low standardized test score deplete my of my chances of receiving admissions to NASS? Thanks!

My son sent his application about a week after it was available. He received his acceptance last Tuesday for session 3. Rolling admissions is great!! Just get yours in ASAP...keep checking the college board site. They post there before you get your email or letter. Usually within three weeks of the test.

Can you please explain how to check the College Board site? I didn't realize they posted on the College Board?

My apologies. I thought you meant that USNA/NASS would notify College Board - thought that sounded strange which is why I inquired. I am waiting to hear from USNA for NASS - I have been accepted to USMA and USAFA Summer Seminars - but both of those have portals. It doesn't seem as USNA does - so I am waiting to hear I suppose through email? Just trying to understand the process if there is another venue other than email that may be used. Thanks for the reply!

It seems that they cherry-pick the ones they want at first and then will fill in the open slots at the end. First round of picks is done, not sure when the second round will begin.

I was accepted to USMA SLE and USAFA Summer Seminar, but I haven't heard back from USNA...does that mean I'm being wait-listed?? I applied the same day applications opened...

First of all, congratulations those who are starting to receive their Summer Seminar notifications. My son turned in his application on 16 Jan, and several days later he received an invitation to attend a Candidate Visitation Weekend (CVW.)

For my own curiosity, I'd like to take a poll to see how many of you will be attending only Summer Seminar, CVW, or both, and to attain more data, if you don't mind, what state and district.

As of now my son has: 1 CVW vs 0 S.S, CA. District 22.

I know this is early in the game, and I should probably wait until the end of April to conduct this survey, but what the heck.

Good question. For those who've applied for NASS and haven't heard back yet, do you have a CVW planned with USNA?

Was offered a CVW almost immediately after applying - but have not heard about NASS as of yet.

I wonder if admissions is waiting until after CVW before sending SS rejection/acceptance...

They don't, a lot of kids don't go on CVWs. To be honest it could be completely random as to when you hear back, but good luck.

They are independent events. Remember -- acceptance to NASS is based on your application AND your district/state. NASS is a marketing tool to reach as many applicants from underrepresented states/areas as possible, to encourage those from diverse backgrounds who may not have considered USNA, and to those who may be a good fit at USNA.

If you do not get accepted to NASS, take full advantage of the CVW if offered (you can do both). If you are not offered a CVW, you can ask for one. They are different experiences, but neither gives you any points on your actual application.

Be patient. You have acceptances to 2 of 3 programs so far. Some candidates will not be accepted to any of them. Obviously USMA and USAFA saw something else in your app (district/state, diversity, URM, recruited athlete, female....) that caught their attention. Acceptance to the summer programs is not all about gpa/ACT scores (although those are important). Good luck!

Alright. Just a little nervous that's all. USNA is the one I really want.
