Summer Seminar Acceptance!!

Aww, that's really too bad...I had a so much two summers ago at USAFA SS and overall it was probably one of my best weeks ever.

congrats goldfarb1. I am just very anxious for my son who applied in the middle of January since he had to wait for his PSAT scores

I applied on December 7 and got in on the most recent wave of acceptances.

My son applied Dec 22nd when SAT's came out, just received offer for Summer Seminar today.

He may be one tired puppy this June.... already confirmed for USMA SLS, received Air Force SS today, and has received verbal indications he should be competitive for Navy Summer program as well.

Which is good I guess, as he has not homed in on a first choice yet, sees strengths and advantages in each program.

To those that have not heard back yet, don't give up, work with your admissions & ALO's to keep improving your competitiveness.

Even with a rejection for summer seminar don't give up: My son was originally rejected for USMA SLS but was added in later based on an interaction with staff.

I'm hearing the summer programs are especially competitive this year, many well qualified applicants.

YAY!

Got my acceptance today! :shake:

Now I just have to decide if I should accept or risk it (spots are filling up fast) and wait for a response from my first choice, NASS. Any advice out there? Also, if I accept and later get accepted for NASS, is there any chance of getting a refund?

Yes, good point hawk. If you don't get into SS, don't worry about it. Yes, it is disappointing not to go, but don't think that your chances at the Academy are gone if you don't go to SS. There are many kids, me included, that got rejected (or just didn't go), to SS, but still received an appointment the next year. I got rejected for SS, but I got a summer job at the academy that was even more fun.

Later,

Brian

Don't sweat. There were people who applied in late December through January that got accepted on the first wave, while I applied earlier and just got in today. Good luck!!!

For all of those who have been accepted if you don't mind posting, what was your unweighted GPA and SAT scores?

I'm in the exact same position. NASS is my #1, AIM #2...but I didn't want to miss out, or take the risk of not getting to atleast one summer seminar. Therefore I went ahead and accepted AF SS. If I get into NASS or AIM (fingers crossed extra tight) , I can atleast say I've seen AF. I've read from a fair amount of people that had "X" as their first choice going into summer seminar, but later decided that "Y" was their new number one choice.

If you can only go to one...it's a very tough decision. It's a risk either way, not going to lie. If you can go to both, make no hesitation and accept AF. If you can't, I don't know what to tell you. I wouldn't get into the business of asking for a refund after you already accepted the offer. You have up until March 3rd to accept or decline, so dont rush to make a decision unless you are considering session C (that one is filling the quickest). It would be much easier if all four SAs sent acceptances the same day!

woohoo!!! Just got my acceptance for summer seminar today.
signed up for session B

Yeah I thought I'd be thrilled to get accepted but it's caused a major rift. Haha. On one hand, I have seen USAFA. Freshman year I basically got to shadow a cadet for most of the day. On the other, I wanna see it on a more personal level.

I thought about going to AF's, then taking a late plane out to Annapolis for that one the next day if I got accepted. However I looked up ticket prices and for the complete trip it would be close to $1200 which is not in my budget.

And Session C would be the only one that worked well. If I go to A, I miss the last week for the seniors and the picnic for them as well as reviews for finals. If I go to B, I'd have to do finals earlier which isn't a problem, however I'd then be missing the graduation ceremony for the seniors, and most of my friends are seniors.

As put in another post on here, academies and military come with hard choices. I just wish this one came with more time.

YAYYY!! To all of you who are attending the Summer Seminars!! ENJOY, check out EVERYTHING!! My son went to the NASS last June and absolutely LOVED it...really "sealed the deal" for him as far as decision making! (Now we are just waitng on the Academy to make their decision regarding him!!) Best wishes to all of you, you must be remarkable, dedicated, intelligent young people to of gotten this far, and I am sure there is a very bright future ahead if you continue to make smart choices!! Good Luck, ENJOY your summer seminar(s)!!

I got my accetance email yesterday, Feb 17. I signed up for Session C.

Hi there. My son FINALLY got in contact with his ALO. However, they have been playing phone tag. He did update his resume. But was wondering if he should also contact the USAFA counselor listed on his status page to let him know of the update.
My one concerns is they have a mandatory format that they request you use and we both realized that we copied and pasted a resume format that was requested for another program. He has fixed it for the USAFA application and wants to make sure they know.

Congrats on finally making contact!!!

If he updated the online system that's what will be in the hands of the folks doing the selections. It wouldn't hurt to let the counselor know.

One thing...if he calls the counselor EXPECT to not reach them and to have to leave a message. They're BURIED by calls. This is normal. Leave a concise message with NAME, last 4 digits of social security (not the entire number) and what the message is. They're VERY good at taking care of their messages!

Best of luck!

Steve
