Summer Seminar Acceptance!!

I did not interview and I was under consideration for months. I checked another box that included community service for I didn't realize my club would qualify as one. I was accepted to Boys State and checked that too.

That was what it took.

still not accepted?

i'm a female that applied to the air force summer seminar two days before the deadline. my application still says "under consideration" and I still haven't been accepted or denied. how will this affect my chances of acceptance? I am 11th out of 484 in my class, 34 on the act, 210 on the PSAT with a 3.94 gpa. why haven't I been selected? I want to know so badly I check my email every hour. if I get rejected will I get a rejection email? please help! :(

Why didn't you apply earlier? Also, don't worry about it. A lot of people who have applied weeks earlier than you haven't even heard yet. They're just sorting through the apps and everything. Since you applied so late, don't be expecting a super quick reply. Good luck though! I'm waiting as well!

I think there are still quite a few people who haven't heard either way. Navy hasn't sent anything out yet which is super frustrating when you have deadlines for AF....

Anyway back to your question, the only things you mentioned were academic. While those are stellar, the academies focus on the "whole person concept" even for summer seminars. Academics, leadership, community service, sports, so on and so forth. In my case I updated my resume to include that I am my JROTC's Color Guard Commander. Did that tip my application into the offered pile? Who knows. Point is if you think it will help, it should be in there. Well I've digressed from your question again.....haha sorry.:yllol:

it's me again. I don't think I have a problem with volunteering or sports. I've played volleyball throughout high school and I'm going to be the captain of varsity next year. I also am in national honor society and I work. only thing I hvent done is a community organization. but I see all these people getting in days, even hours, after sending in their applications! so I'm just really anxious.

Haha, chill out for a second:cool:

Yes, SS is competitive, and although they consider you on a "whole person" level, it is a bit more "on the paper". Your academics are very good, so I would not worry - you are competitive and you've done everything you could.

I agree.

It would have helped had you applied earlier. But thats a non-issue now. I applied back in December and my academics are very average, but I have good EC's. I think AFSS and AIM take a little more into account with regards to EC's as opposed to SLS and NASS. These were my stats:

GPA: 3.4 UW/3.6 W
Courses: All honors, magnet, two AP's and two college math classes.
SAT: CR-590 M-580
EC: A ton of leadership, awards, and wins with debate---captain, etc. FBLA 3rd place in state for entrep. Published writing on the death penalty. Semi-pro cyclists--sponsored rider. Track. 300+ volunteer hours. 4 Summer law firm internships. Currently intern at a legal aid society. Volunteer political science tutor ( 60 hours). Intern for state legislature.

I agree that they look at the total package of the applicant. Here is my son's
He applied to SS on Jan 21st and got accepted Feb 23rd.

3.2 GPA. 3.6 weighted
3 AP class and the rest honors
350+ service hours
captain of swim team

1 year LAX
Sea Cadets 4 years and made Chief for his unit
basic and advanced Airman training
Passed FAA ground school at the age of 16

PSAT scores math 64 and Critical reading 60.\
he is taking the SAT on Saturday.

question about hours of community service - is that for all of high school or per year?

Since we are comparing - DS applied end of Dec, so far have heard nothing.
3.88 uw gpa, rank top 10%
no AP classes (small school only 2 offered, must be a senior to take)
32 ACT (30E, 31M, 33R, 34S), taking SAT on saturday
national honor society
has had poetry published
cross country (earned 2 varsity letters, most likely will be captain next year)
track
other ecs - choir, knowledge bowl, play, fccla parlimentary procedure team (qualified for state competition in April), church/youth group/bible study
Eagle Scout
OA district chapter chief
youth advisor on city park board
community service - not sure exact hours - between church/youth group and scouts probably ~5-7 hours/month
works as a camp counselor in summer/weekend winter day camp counselor in winter

YES! just went on the website; I got accepted! I'll probably be heading off to the first session.

DS went to check his email last night and found an offer for Summer Seminar (he had been waitlisted). Needless to say, he's pretty excited!

LB91, May I ask how did you know you guys were waitlisted? I was rejected and only received mail confirmation.

By the way, Congratulations! I would imagine that’s one of the most exciting things to find out.

He got a letter in the mail that basically said (paraphrased) - sorry we had lots of qualified applicants and couldn't offer everyone a spot, but if you are interested in being on the waitlist send an email to ___. He sent the email and had kind of forgotten about it until he got the email offering him a spot.
