Summer Seminar Application

I just sent my application in last night! Good luck to everyone applying! I decided to go on the safe side of things and went with the "characters with spaces" option. I am willing to read someone's paper if they want to send it to me. cole.ferrell96@gmail.com

US Air Force Academy (Admissions) just posted a reply to this question on their Facebook site. Character count does not include spaces.

^Thanks. I might add some stuff to my essay tonight before the deadline :)

Ahhhh I sent mine in with a lower character count (to be on the safe side), hope I don't feel the heat that bad because of it!

How many characters was yours without spaces? (mine was 2365 without, 2800 with) I don't think it will be a huge deal unless it was under 1500 or something.

Plus: Quality over quantity right? :sofa:

got that right.

thats a quote from somewhere isn't it....

Does anyone know if it would affect negativity on my application if I were accepted to SS and chose to decline?

There is a university prep program scholarship where I'm at that would allow me to gain 8 STEM college credits over the summer. It's VERY rigorous, and would be a total of 6 weeks. It's at the same time as summer seminar, so I wouldn't be able to go to both.

I haven't decided which one I would attend if I got accepted to both, but I would rather go to the one that would look best on my application.

Thanks :)

I shouldn't think it would matter... I didn't even apply to summer seminar but I have an appointment. If the program is that rigorous, it could reflect postively on your application; summer seminar won't boost you. In my opinion you should do whichever you want to do personally. Oh, and don't get overly analytical with these things because you will go crazy! I know, easier said than done.

Hey everyone, I have a question about the Summer Seminar App and the Academy app in General.

I speak fluent German. On the summer seminar app there isn't a place to put my language ability. I am curious if there is a place on the normal application to put this information, or if I should try to squeeze it into my personal statement on my summer seminar app.

Thanks

I went to Summer Seminar last year, and added languages under 'other noteworthy achievements'.
Remember, you can write more than one line for each bullet point.

Note: Everything is based off of last years application, some things might have changed.

As for the actual USAFA application, you will be able to put it in a few places. You can put languages under the resume section and some of the essay questions may be a perfect opportunity to say that (although that depends on how you learned the language).

BTW, why 'Ameisen-Zug' as your username, is there a story behind that?

Yeh actually :shake:

When I was living in Germany and going to Gymnasium, I sat next to a girl in Philosophy class who I ended up doing most of my classwork with. Whenever she passed me a note, her hand writing was so round that it looked like circles across the page, like an ant train. She taught me the word for it in German, and I've teased her about her 'ant train' writing ever since.

Just one of those things that stuck in my brain.

Sorry about the late reply.
