Time to play "waldo" and spot your kid(s)

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I spotted DS 3 times in the video! It was so much fun to watch them and catch up on what they did for the past week...he's on his way to the airport for flight home. He LOVED the week! Thanks to all for making it such a great experience for them!

:welcome:Thanks for all the updates! I can't wait to hear all the stories! DS absolutely loved the SS. He can't wait to come home and start the application process. Unfortunately, he is on one of the last planes leaving today. He had no complaints about anything except his mile time which he said he will continue to work on when he gets home. I am looking forward to the next long year and his first BFE. Here's hoping all our DS/DD will be back again next June. Good Luck to all who are attending the SS B & C. :thumb:

I am currently sitTing in Colorado springs airport, waiting for my flight to LAX. :) this week was really fun, the cadre were very helpful and supportive. PT was somewhat tough, make sure you keep up..practice pyramid pushups and running, the altitude hit me pretty hard. There is alot of construction going on so be careful. PACK SPACE! Trust me. Haha also, memorize that packet of contrails, do not forget to know absolutely everything, think of it as a bible. :)

Anyone can ask me questions, I have some great stories!

Hi I'm going to the Summer Seminar Session C, and what i wanted to ask was what exactly is the packet of contrails? Where do i get it? And i also wanted to ask how tuff are the cadre? Were they screaming and cursing at you guys at any point of the Seminar like drill sergeants?

The Contrails given to you when you arrive contains information that will be memorized on the first night. Some examples include but are not limited to: phonetic alphabet, planes, and quotes.

For Doolie for a Day, the cadre will be tough. You paid $350 + a plane ticket to be here and experience what it is like so DFAD will be a tough day with the cadre yelling (not cursing, we are not allowed to curse at you) and you doing lots of PT. However, remember that the cadre will only be yelling at you for that day only because we do want the Cadet Candidates (you) to be comfortable asking questions about this place and that's difficult to do if you are always getting yelled at. I wouldn't worry about DFAD but remember it will be an eye-opener for some.

not saying that anyone on here is, but a piece of advice.. don't be that kid. the kid who tries and beat the system (i.e waking up at like 2 am to "be ready" on dfad) live it, breathe it, and let it surprise you. let yourself be woken up at whatever hour in the morning, memorize the stuff when you get there, not before. It will give you an accurate experience into life at the academy. the cadre are tough, there is a nice amount of yelling, but just keep your head, focus on what you are asked. I had a great time, and oh..make sure to pay attention in briefings, the info is priceless! :thumb:

Fyterpilot22: Thanks for the link to the video! I watched it pretty closely a couple times--think I caught a glimpse of Raptor buried in there. It will be fun to watch it with him and to see/hear his reaction to it. I'm sure it will help him remember the many stories he didn't have time to tell us. Wife and other kiddos picked him up from the airport tonight--I'm out of town on ANG duty so I can't be there to welcome him back in person. :frown:

Here's what he said about his last day at SS:

  • They toured the athletic facilities and the airfield
  • He liked seeing all the gliders--he said they launched a bunch of them while they were at the airfield
  • They watched a movie and his cadet element leader got them pizza for their last night at USAFA
Big thanks to all the cadets who volunteered to guide, teach, lead, and inspire our (hopefully) future cadets--you're the best! :thumb: I look forward to hearing about the other two SS sessions.
