Hey I would really love some constructive criticism on my essay. I don't know if i should add more about my challenges or not. I really want to go to the USAFA Summer Seminar to see if USAFA is the right fit for me or not, im on the edge.
Please discuss any personal life experience where you have overcome adversity or challenges that have shaped you into the person you are today.? (3000 characters max)
Moving schools, leaving everyone and everything you love. One of the hardest challenges for a kid trying to find stability. Now try moving schools over 7 times in 12 years. I’ve never really felt like a belonged in any of these places, I was a floater, not belonging to a certain friend group and not having close and personal friends. As soon as I got comfortable where I was, it was time to move again. I learned quickly the pattern of moving, stay a year or two, and move again. I felt alone in what was happening, that’s when I realized there are other kids who are new to a school. I started to break out of my negative bubble and reach out to those kids and invite them to my lunch table with my new friends I had made in the previous year. I started to make sure no one was excluded from anything, whether it be tag or even in a conversation. I then became a social butterfly wherever I went, it became easier to make friends, and when it was time to move again I knew that I would make new and different friends. I learned how to adapt to the change around me and started to love all the new experiences as an outcome of moving. Everywhere I go, I keep in mind that there are people that are struggling just how I was struggling back in my earlier years of moving. Even if I receive backlash for inviting the “new kid” to the lunch table, I know that it is morally right to invite them over, rather than letting them sit alone or eat in the bathroom like I did. I know how it feels to be alone, so I make it my goal to end the cycle of feeling alone after moving.
