Summer Seminar essays

No, there are three prompts for the actual application that are separate from the summer seminar application.

Since Summer Session has absolutely no bearing on your application, I wouldn't imagine so.

Is the regular application portal set up the same way as the Summer Seminar portal? The section where you enter classes and grades is somewhat clunky.

Only if you choose to allow it to be. Last year we got a choice. We chose not to make it our precandidate file.

Is there a downside to making it a precandidate file?

It is my understanding that only your SAT scores & Social Security # from your SS App rollover. You'll probably be taking the SAT a few times after SS, so those scores will need to be uploaded to your USAFA file. Both application systems are in dire need of "updating" as one might say.

DS didn't because he wanted to ensure that the full application represented his very best effort and he/we didn't know what to expect at the time. One thing to note is that those who choose to use their SS application were the very first to have the application process turned on by the admissions office. This means that their application window opened first, in early July, and their deadline for getting everything done was around November 1. The candidates get around four months to get it all done. So those who used their SS application to get started needed to be prepared to get all the rest done before Nov.

My DS started his application with the application to NASS, sometime in April. There was no accelerated deadline.
He had until January 31st - just like everyone else - to complete all the requirements.
He didn't finish everything until well into December.

Was that deadline for all components of the application (except MOC nom)? Were DoDMERB, CFA, and recommendation letters all due by Nov. 1st?

Everything that you can control (ie. essays, activities record, personal data record, CFA, drug and alcohol abuse statement) is, I believe, due four months after you start the application(i'm guessing that is November 1 for you). Everything else (ie. letters of rec, teacher evaluations, test scores) is due two weeks after that. I would begin DoDMERB as soon as you can as it can take a couple months depending on your medical history. There is a physical exam and optometric exam. You will be contacted by DoDMERB to set up an exam date after you finish three items on the application list so finish those as soon as possible. I don't think there is a hard deadline for DoDMERB but you need to be medically cleared to be considered for admission. As for the ALO interview, after you complete most of your application your assigned ALO (different from the ALO in your area) should contact you and then you can set up a date for the interview (that's what mine did). If they don't, their name should be listed in your portal so you can initiate by emailing them. Im not sure if there is a deadline for this. If you have anymore questions feel free to pm me! Good Luck! :)
