Summer Seminar Opens Tomorrow! + Question

Hey everyone, just saw this thread and I wish everyone the best of luck! I got my email this morning confirming that I have been given a slot for the next Seminar :D. The only problem is they don't have the schedule ready, so I'm not able to accept the slot :S. Does anyone know if this is normal right now, or is anyone experiencing the same thing?

Application submitted (your application has not yet been processed by USAFA)

A couple of questions:

To Prospekt-that is great that you already received your email of acceptance.Good job! Can you post your stats (and geography) so we know where it is starting at?

To anyone else: my heading of the app states: Application submitted (your application has not yet been processed by USAFA)

Does that mean it has not yet been looked at, or that it has not yet been decided upon? I filled it out early morning on December 1st. If others are being accepted (my stats arent great so I would totaly understand if I am not accepted yet/at all) but I would imagine it has been processed. But maybe processed means decided?

Thank you in advance.

Hey Steaktacos, in response to stats and geography:
GPA:
3.65
Class Rank:
236
Class Size:
1065

Test Scores:
SAT Verbal/Critical Reading: 680
SAT Math: 630
SAT Writing: 550
PSAT Verbal/Critical Reading: 63
PSAT Math: 64
PSAT Writing: 59

And I'm a Florida kid, so it looks like its starting in the Southeast maybe, not too sure.

As far as your question about your application not being processed, it probably means it hasn't even been looked at yet. But no worries, there is time  I applied around 8am December 1st, I wasn't expecting a reply until January haha

The part about not being processed means exactly that. When they get to your application, probably within a week or so, it will change. This frequently occurs during the regular application process for USAFA. Try not to read anything into it.

I would really like to attend the summer seminar so I at least have more of an idea of what I am getting myself into.

I wasn't able to put any of my test scores on the application. I haven't gotten my PSAT back and I am scheduled to take the SAT and ACT in February. Is this going to really hurt my chances of getting accepted?

Same here. And I filled it out by 0800 Dec. 1st. And my stats are pretty good.
Does anyone know which area they look at first? (And I guess it might be around Florida since Prospekt_Of_Suburbia was already accepted. Congrats!)

I am confused as to how Prospekt_Of_Suburbia has been accepted already, because on the USAFA Admissions website, it says they will start selecting appr. 1 week after the application window opens.
But you should get your PSAT's back soon, and be able to put them on the application. I don't think it will make a significant difference until a couple of weeks in, when most will have PSAT scores on their applications.
If your school does not give them out until later, ask your guidance counselor if you can have yours early to put them on your application.
Good luck!

It is weird, I was expecting to wait for at least a week but they sent me an acceptance notification at 4:24 in the morning on Dec 1 (I finished my app at about 1:15).

Can you post your stats as well?
Thanks

I'm from Canon City, CO which is like an hour away from the Academy (I keep telling my parents that they should move somewhere besides the most competitive area in the country for USAFA wannabes lol).

Order of processing

Does anyone know the order of processing? If I applied the first day at 5am Mountain time zone and my application reads "your application has not yet been processed by USAFA" Do you need a particular criteria to be processed?

Yeah man, I'm in the same boat! I anyone knows the process that would be comforting. I applied really early and my status is the same as 2steaktacos, haha.

Nope.

I know, not the answer you wanted.

USAFA will look at those that have applied, and then inform the ALO that they have an SS candidate. The ALO will be "highly encouraged" to speak with the candidate and then write up a report on the student.

BUT...not all are like that; some are "so good" on paper, they are immediately offered a slot. I had one student like that last year.

Too bad it's not like that for Appointments! :yllol: Is it still going to be March?

Best

I knew you were going to say that...

Heck that's OK, we've got plans B,C,D and F lined up, with finals and such I don't think the son has even THOUGHT about the academy in a couple weeks...

Best

Worried

Tomorrow will be a week since I applied for the Summer Seminar. The web page still says that my application has not been processed. I updated my application today but it still says "Last update: 12/1/11"...

Furthermore, I do not have my PSAT scores back. However, I do have my scores from last year. Should I update my application with my old scores? They are not super (V80, M56, W71), but maybe better than nothing.

I'm sure you know that those are very good scores. Do not phish for compliments please. I would however, wait for your new PSAT scores. I have already an SAT score inputted and will not submit my application without my new PSAT scores. And please remember, the application for Summer Seminar closes February 28. It is very odd that so many people are getting accepted so early. I guess the workload at Cadet Drive is dieing down a little (lol). Anyway, this is to everyone in general by the way, just because you haven't heard from Admissions within the first week doesn't mean theres a problem. You still have about 14 weeks.

I am sorry if you thought I was fishing for compliments. I am aware that the Academy is very engineering focused and also HIGHLY selective, so what may be good for attending a public university might not even be competative for the Academy. But thanks for the...encouragement...about my scores. Again, I am sorry if I offended you, and thank you for your help.

My good friend, I am sorry for being so rude and assumptive. Please forgive me. However, please realize that as a sophomore getting an 80 on the PSAT in any section is beyond exemplarily. I was incorrect for assuming that you were fishing for compliments. I now know you weren't and wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. I owe you one.

As for my advice, I stand by it. Wait until your old PSAT. THERE IS NO RUSH! I found myself being a little nervous as the acceptance emails began flowing out, but realized that I would rather have my application done efficiently and wisely than have it turned in as its current status ( I am by no means attacking the ones who have already submitted their apps, as I am sure that they completed them to their best knowledge with all of the variables that are delaying my personal application solved).
