Hi All! Just out of curiosity, has anyone been notified of their USNASS status if they are waitlisted or rejected yet? I am aware of the rolling admissions process but, I have yet to hear of my status after applying on the first day it came out. Any thoughts?

I applied last year to NASS, and didn't get in. Currently awaiting a decision for C/O 2027, but I wish you the best of luck. Also, it's important to note, that after I was rejected, I was offered two CVW's and atteded both. Don't know why I was given two, but I try not to speculate.

Also, I was notified of my status around two to three weeks after applying.

Thank you for your input! I actually received a CVW invite after I submitted my application to SS, and I was able to complete my visit early March. Yet, I still haven't heard back from them on my status on SS. I might give the office a call by the end of this month.

Good luck to you!

USNA should inform you of your status by April 15. I also received a CVW in January and was accepted into NASS a couple of weeks ago.

CVW is a great alternative, so I assume you had a nice view and visit. By the way, there are other great ways to see the Academy (if you decide you want to make a 2nd visit). One good route is by attending one of the USNA summer sports camps. Many of my students have participated in them across all of the SAs. Students stay in the dorms, eat in the mess hall, meet cadets and staff, and they also work with the coaching staff. If you are applying to other SAs, then the sports camps are a great way to experience the schools.

My son attended summer STEM rising sophomore year. When it came to his junior year and he applied to summer seminar, his application was declined. He was devastated and thought it spoke to his candidacy as an applicant. It didn’t. He will commission May of 2024.

Thanks to this forum I assured him it didn’t. Summer programs are amazing outreach summer camps that reach a very wide demographic and geographic audience. They are exposure and recruitment.

Denial to one does not speak to your quality as a candidate. Keep going. Make them tell you no.

NASS is not an "Admissions process." Many threads on SAF about the purpose and objectives of NASS, so I won't repeat, but suffice to say if your are checking your emails hourly to see if you have been accepted , you aren't the target audience. (Not directed to OP , but to NASS applicants in general).

Don’t read too much into not getting a SS invite

…. We live 85 miles from Gate 1, and DD would spend time there during Lacrosse camps from a very young age …. I am sure that they had a “File” on her …. No SS invite for her, and she was bummed, but it didn’t matter anyway.

My sense is that it is very much a spread the love around kind of thing … get PR out to the far reaches and attract a Diverse demographic too, which is “Extremely Important” to the mission.

Anyway … work hard, eyes forward, don’t look left or right, and keep your foot from evil … and good things will happen.

Last year I got denied around early April, don't get caught up in waiting and if you get denied it won't effect you in the future. It sucks to not get it but I have friends that have been accepted into every academy as a 27 that got denied from the ss. NO matter what just keep your goals in mind and keep going!

If you are denied that’s 800 dollars in your pocket, plus the expense it takes to travel these days. I paid 1900 dollars for summer seminar and a sports camp, which did definitely drive home the dream of attending there for my son. The money invested at Annapolis would easily cover his dormitory at the college where he will likely take his freshman plebe like schedule .

Am sure there are cases where it makes a huge difference, and others in which it doesn’t. I have since embraced the advantages of not being selected for summer seminar. That money now at minimum would

The main benefit of the summer seminar programs is that they allow attendees to participate in an extended pseudo test drive of the Academies. While the sessions do not exactly replicate the plebe/cadet experience, they do provide insight that either reinforces or degrades the attendees' desire to earn an offer of appointment. From that perspective, the experience is extremely valuable.

NASS never makes a “huge difference” in anyone’s package, though it often makes a huge difference in a decision to apply. We frequently preach that being selected doesn’t mean you’re going to be appointed just as being turned down for NASS doesn’t mean you’ll have the same fate with USNA.

Parent should support NASS or summer camp attendance to broaden their kid’s horizons, let them learn about USNA, get better at sports, etc., not because they think it’s a golden ticket to admission. One of the reasons NASS isn’t a major factor is that USNA knows some families can’t afford it.

Son didn't get into NASS (smack dab in the middle of COVID was probably part of that), and he eventually got an appointment.

Of course, we are local as well, so they probably figured he could just drive his butt over there and look, if he wanted. ;)
