Okay, so I was accepted to and will be attending session 2 of the 2018 summer Seminar. However, I live in Oregon, and will be going by myself to the SS. I am already leaving at 5 am, (taking a connecting flight in Colorado) and am not scheduled to arrive until about 315 pm. I saw on the email they sent that they will have buses going to the academy from around 9 to 4, but I've read over a couple of threads on here that said you shouldn't arrive later than noon. So I am just a little concerned about my situation because these are the earliest flights I could get, and if there is a delay or something and I arrive after 4 then what will happen? Will I just be stuck at the airport, or should I email the people who run NASS about my situation? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1. Are you supposed to listen to strangers (including this one) over the official communication from USNA?

2. Did you read the rest of that email which they told you the number to call in the event of emergency or delay?

Enjoy NASS!

The Intersex Society of North America? Islamic Society of North America?

Whichever it is, you're posting in the wrong forum again .

I suggest you follow the official correspondence from USNA. If USNA says they'll have buses running until 1600, they will. If your flight is delayed, there is a number to call. They've been doing this for many years. Trust me, they won't leave anyone stranded at the airport.

Folks may be suggesting it is preferable to arrive before noon, if possible. It's not possible for you, so don't worry about it. There have been times when people have missed an entire day of NASS for various reasons. Not ideal, but USNA will make it work.

If flights aren't already booked, you might consider going a day early staying at a hotel near the Airport just for piece of mind. You (or parents) might have to call ahead and make arrangments with a hotel if you are underage. (There was another thread recently discussion this).

If already booked ..don't sweat it. I am often guilty of worrying too much about the "what ifs" of air travel, but as others have noted , I am sure that USNA is well versed in the perils of air travel, and nothing ...be it flight delay or lost baggage, will be new. Put the NASS phone number in your phone, and if problems come up ..communicate. (Was just thinking about how much more difficult this was before the days of cell phones, and instant communication).

This forum is great ..at times. However, if there is one message that Parents and Candidates should take away is that everything on here is UNOFFICIAL -- you should always rely upon information from OFFICIAL sources, i.e. USNA direct, over things you read here. If USNA says 1600 is good enough, then 1600 is good enough . (If the OFFICIAL source is wrong, and it happens -- you at least have cover). Everything else is "gouge" -- Gouge can be good, but there is an old saying "Live by the gouge, Die by the gouge." In other words, rely on gouge at your own peril.

Okay, thank you. I feel like Im just overthinking this all.

Thank you! I will do all the following. I've just been really stressed about this and having to finish all my classes a week early, so Im kind of overthinking it all. But again, thanks for the reply!

What are you talking about? I am just trying to help out the young person from Oregon and other future candidates.

Mods?

I agree and good to remember NASS is partly a sales pitch for those considering applying to USNA. If you are late to NASS due to some unexpected transportation delay is a LOT different from a mid being late returning after a holiday due to poor planning on their part.

My son is also attending the second session and his connecting flight leaves Denver same time as you mention. I would guess you two are on the same flight. So at least you won't be alone.

Worst case scenario - get an Uber or Lyft from the airport. Right now - my app is stating @$40 from BWI to USNA; and $50, DCA-USNA.
