My son was accepted for Summer Seminar, and I think I can save some significant $$ if I arrange his travel right away. I know detailed travel info comes out in the registration packets March 1st, but I thought even if I just had an educated guess on required timing (like arrive by this time on June 11th but don't plan on leaving before this time on June 16th), it might be enough. Has anyone seen info on this, or heard how it has worked in the past? Thanks!

Wondering the same, summer travel can be $$, any tips out there? I wish USAFA would update its SS page to include basic travel logistic info. USNA has this info on its SS page and it appears very helpful.

The way it was last year you were supposed to arrive anytime between 10AM-2PM to get on an Air Force Academy bus from the Airport. I believe that if you arrived later and noted it on the travel form when you submitted that they would be able to accommodate you and arrange transportation. In addition, if your family were there on the last night of Summer Seminar then you are allowed to leave that night with them. If not, your flight should be before 12PM on the following day. Possibly things will be different this year but this is how it was last year and in previous years I believe.

My mother wanted to fly in a day early, will that affect anything?

@emtet What do you mean fly in a day early? If you are looking to arrive to the Academy a day early on your own that is not a possibility. You can fly in a day early with your family and stay in a hotel the night before but you will not be able to stay at the Academy until the day your session starts.

When you check with the shuttle schedules, check if it's from Denver or Colorado Springs. Not all airlines fly into CO Springs, it's a small airport. There are private shuttle from Denver airport. It's about an hour ride.

@Tx2AFA Just to clarify, which night do you mean as "the last night of Summer Seminar?" E.g., for the June 11-16 seminar, does "the last night of Summer Seminar" mean the night of the 15th? So either you leave with your family the night of the 15th or on the 16th by noon? Am I understanding you right? THANKS for your help!

Sorry, I meant fly in a day early and stay in a hotel. She wanted me to have a day to adjust to the time change.

Yes, this is allowed. The only thing that it would affect is that you would have to be dropped off by your parents at the Academy the day that Summer Seminar starts in place of being taken by a shuttle from the airport.

Question about the Air Force academy bus from airport. Does that refer to the Colorado Springs airport only? Is there a Air Force academy bus that picks up from Denver airport? If not, are there any transportation options from the Denver airport?

@EAC

There is only a USAFA shuttle from the Colorado Springs airport. It is free and accessible to all summer seminar kids arriving between the hours noted above.

Unfortunately, there is no shuttle sponsored by the Air Force Academy from the Denver airport. You can however use one of the private bus companies that transfers people between the two airports. This will however have an additional cost that you will have to cover.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

@DKTKT

Sorry, I had not seen your above reply. If your DS/DD's Summer Seminar starts on June 11 and ends on June 16, they can leave with a parent on the night of the 16th. If they do not have a parent with them they must depart on the morning of the 17th.
