Woohooo! I'm new this this forum and this site is awesome!

Just wanted to say that I got accepted to USMA SLS, USAFA SS, and now waiting for NASS, which is my first choice! This is going to be a great summer! Any tips or comments about the summer seminars are greatly appreciated.

Anyone else in my boat?

Hi NorCalGirl!!! Right now, I'm waiting for NASS (first choice), AFA SS (discouraging to see that a lot of people have been accepted already, hope there's some spots left, and waiting for CGA AIM applications to open! :D Welcome to the forums!

Thanks!

Don't be discouraged! I'm sure there are plenty of slots left. In fact, I'm not sure if I'll be able to go USFAFA if NASS collides with the session (Session C) I chose for USAFA. I'd be glad to give you my spot!:shake:

Hey welcome to the forums. Have you already accepted USAFA's offer?

if you want to go to USAFASS that badly, you can call to change your session. I had the same problem 2 years back. I explained to them my problem, with two of the summer seminars interferring with each other. They were MORE than happy to switch for me. There's no guarantee that they'll do it for you, but there's no harm in trying!

Don't get discouraged! They told me I was on the waiting list for AFA SS and that I would hear in 2 or 3 weeks (near the end of March 2009) but I never heard. So I called them... I entered my phone number wrong haha so they couldn't reach me (don't ask why they didn't contact me by other methods). I got the 2nd to last spot!!! By not hearing yet... well that's good news because you haven't been declined .

NY Regents

Anyone know how they deal with Regents exam conflicts and NASS? June is always peppered with these exams in NY and I'm curious how this was handled.

Thanx,

S4S

One thing to do to prepare is to get in shape. At NASS at least (and probably the others), you'll take the CFA. Although you can always retake it if you don't like your scores, doing well is a good thing. You also will be better able to participate in the various activities.

Welcome! There are a significant number of mideshipman from NorCal at the Academy. What part of NorCal are you from?

My son attended USNA summer seminar last year. He only applied for USNA. When he left he was approximately 3 weeks into his "official" football training season. So while not at peak he was still in excellent physical shape. Because he is what we fondly call a "redneck" swimmer (really good cannon ball off the board but not much else) he went to visit his swimmer cousins in So. Cal for some training then practiced some lap swimming before he left. Even with his level of fitness he would definately admit that on the last day when they went for a decent run, he was tired. He loved it and had a great experience and I am sure you will too.

Thank you for everyone's reply! I'm from San Francisco WOOT WOOT!! This is going to be a great summer!

When do I hear from USNA about NASS?

My mid is from the East Bay. Nothing is for certain but I'd speculate your odds are good to get a NASS invite due to the geographic location. As I recall we heard in early April about NASS acceptance.

Do you know if your high school has sent other kids to the Academy over the years?

I got into AFASS and SLS and am waiting for NASS unfortunatley i can only go to one because of boys state and all my finals since i live in New York my school doesnt end until late june.

We're on Long Island, has your school indicated what you'll do about any missed Regents exams?

My sons only applied to NASS. I have been told by a friend that the school will be accommodating for the S/A's. His Daughter is in her junior year at USNA.

If im not mistaken there session A and B of NASS do not interfere with the regents. Session B would be my first choice as in the week before regents is mostly review and not new material

I sent a PM. Yes, I believe you're right but, with twins it can be a little more complicated

East Bay..sweet. Which city? I go to Mercy SF(if you've heard of that). I really hope I get into NASS!

No one from my school has ever been sent to any of the academys.

Wish me luck!
