Summer Seminar

I only applied to NASS and got in no issue, they're basically just looking for well-rounded, good grades, etc. aka decent to good candidates. When I got there I was a little skeptical about it, I was interested in going but didn't really know if I'd love it. The physical stuff was definitely hard but not unbearable if you're in shape. I swim 7 days a week so my endurance was fine, but I hadn't trained any sprint stuff in a long time, I would suggest hitting the track for a couple sprint laps once or twice a week for times.

I met a lot of great people while there too. I became quick friends with my squad and I could see how familial relationships build within companies. To say the least I LOVED NASS!! Granted there were some people there who hated from day 1. You just have to go in with an open mind and be ready for anything, because believe me the unthinkable will happen.

6 months later...I've received and accepted my appointment to the Naval Academy class of 2014, and will be swimming on the swim team. So that week changed my life, just be open about it, that's what I was and look what happened.

Yah run alot and build up endurance for NASS. You do an 8 hour less exstensive sea trials. PT in the morning. Be in shape.

CONGRATULATIONS HILLTOPPER14! I wish you the best!

Do the majority of the NASS participants pass the CFA test? How is the atmosphere in Annapolis? I believe that the Annapolis/DC area is the most ideal place for me to begin my future.

The atmosphere in Annapolis - separate from the atmosphere on the Yard - is awesome.

Thanks! Yes, I have already accepted USAFA's offer, but I haven't paid yet.

Is there anyone else from Cali who is considering USNA as their first choice?

Yeah I was just wondering cuz I'm in the same boat. (Haha, get it, boat? Navy? Sorry I'm tired from track.)
Anyway, I've accepted USAFA's and haven't paid but am hoping to get NASS and then dropping USAFA's if need be. Maybe.

On another note, I am from Cali and USNA is my first choice as well. But I'm from SoCal. :shake:

Yeah I'm planning to do the same, drop USAFA SS if i get accepted to NASS.

Oh which part of SoCal are you from?

Did you guys call and ask about doing this? Honestly, my son is doing the exact same thing, but when I called and asked if this was a possibility and just for some guidance - whether he should wait and not accept and see if there were still slots later, or if he should accept and then cancel before payment, the lady got really snippy and told me that he "needed to make a decision" and was "being very inconsiderate". I asked if there was any way he could hold off on deciding until he heard from Navy and she told me that if he didn't accept by the deadline he'd lose the slot, period. So I then confirmed that I believed it was better for him to accept and cancel if he needed to before payment was due and she went back to insisting how inconsiderate we were and the whole "he needs to decide what's more important to him." Guess I just caught them on a bad day!

That would be my guess. Most of what I've heard is that the people are fairly helpful. I haven't personally talked to them, but if I do get accepted for NASS I intend on explaining to them that I have visited USAFA before and I'd like to see UNSA before deciding for sure if that's where I want to go and that I simply cannot afford to attend more than one summer seminar.

NorCalGirl,

One of the reasons why I love USNA so much is because of the atmosphere there. I have a feeling you'll think the same thing. And as far as the CFA is concerned I think a majority of people pass. From my expriences, this year at least, the CFA was not stressed as much. But you have to keep in mind that the weighting of different parts of the application differ by year, and by the stats from the previous class admitted. But it's still important to stand out.

Thanks! Man, I really hope I get into NASS; it sounds like so much fun!

I'm getting really frustrated right now that USMA still has not sent me my confirmation letter for SLS when I've already sent in all the registration forms in January.

My son just accepted his summer seminar dates for USAFA. Should he call Naval and let them know that he can't do a certain week for NASS? Unless it's like USAFA where they give you the choice of the week you prefer when they accept you. Thanks

Last year they did not give you the choice. When you received the acceptance email it said "You have been accepted for week 2" or whatever. I'd certainly try calling now and letting them know. If you don't get a hold of them, they don't assign them all at once (and obviously not everyone accepts) so there would still be a chance of getting into a different session, but worth getting it noted now if you could. Good luck!
