Hello, I just got denied to summer seminar which came as a bit of a shock to be honest due to my credentials and the fact that I'm not really used to rejection haha.... My question is what are they looking for for NASS? I have a 3.9 gpa, good not great test scores, decent leadership, high athletic achievements. Not getting too down though because I have been talking to a coach and there is a good shot of me playing varsity water polo at the academy! Provided I get accepted....

Because NASS is a recruiting tool for USNA, candidates from under-represented areas have an advantage when applying. Don't be discouraged. Plenty of those who didn't get to go to NASS were ultimately accepted to the academy. If your application is strong enough, you will be assigned a candidate number (some time in June, I believe) and enabled to continue your application.

Don't let it get you down. My understanding is that acceptance/rejection to NASS has no bearing on acceptance to the academy. If you receive an offer for a CVW take it if you can. Don't give up the ship! :thumb:

Fellow NASS reject here.
Appointment to USNA received in November.
So there you have it.

Joedoe, thanks for that. Confirms that NASS has no necessary bearing on getting an appointment.

Still waiting in VA...

I got denied too

Keep your heads up guys. I never even tried for Summer Seminar since I was told my grades where to low. I got my GPA up, and did well on the ACT and got an appointment to the class of 2018. Work on what your package is deficient in and don't let this get you down.

I was denied for NASS, ended up receiving an LOA a couple weeks after I finished my application in october, and got appointed on Christmas Eve.

Don't give up.

I have no intentions of giving up on USNA. Just curious for those who got denied for NASS and later accepted to USNA, what kind of statistics did you have?

I wasn't able to handle the wait any longer, so I e-mailed an admissions officer about my status. I was put on the wait list, which isn't the worst thing that could happen.

Top 3% class rank, 4.0 unweighted gpa and eventually, 2290 sat's, but I hadn't taken my sat's at the time I applied for NASS and they were below 2000when I took them for the first time in January, 2013.
Solid Sports participation, awards, decent ec's. Eagle Scout

If I remember the letter of rejection I received for NASS mentioned that I was from a competitive area and therefore the slots were more limited.

I was pretty upset about it at the time especially since a friend of mine got in but in a weird twist I received an appointment in November, 2013 and he did not receive an appointment. Don't read too much into it. Just stay the course and do what you have to do to present your best possible self in the application.
Good luck.

Waitlisted, but we kind of expected that by the end of the day. As I told DS, "they are looking for people to convince, and you don't need convincing." Good luck to everyone else.

Welll I had the 3.8 gpa varsity sport girl scout church school volunteer teacher etc..and I got denied to NASS...but that means nothing. I was accepted and am currently an almost free plebe in the class of 17. So not getting into NASS no way affects getting into the Academy.

At the time I applied to NASS, I had a 4.2 GPA, 35 superscore ACT, 222 PSAT (this ended up being national merit, but USNA did not know this at the time) I played two sports, was in NHS and another school leadership program, and managed the basketball team.

Later when I applied to the actual school I had a swim team captaincy, two more varsity letters, the vice-presidency of a club, and National Merit Semifinalist (now Finalist) designation added to my application profile.
