The 2009 USAFA Summer Seminar Application is up on the website. I already applied.

just filled one out
i had no idea you had to write a resume and all lol i was surprised and i had no idea if my vision was better than 20/50 uncorrected i have contacts and they're -3.00 and -2.75 hopefully it is cause i put yes lol

question: are we allowed to wear contacts during the summer seminar?? or must we wear glasses?

I'm pretty sure they let you wear contacts. I don't remember a lot of glasses. but then again, it was a year and a half ago...

It's not better. i wear -3.75 and -3.25, and im around 20/350. 20/50 is around a prescription of -1.00 to -1.25. but don't be discouraged because now it is easier than ever before for people with bad eyes such as you and me to fly if we want. The Air Force gives cadets correcting eye surgery if they want to fly, and if they don't have any major eye problems.

ok thanks i'll go change that now on my applic.

yup, i dont think they care about your vision, as long as you're a decent student + involved in the community, etc. btw summer seminar was extremely fun. i got accepted to ss on my birthday, so i turned my bday party into an air force/patriotism party... that was a great birthday:shake:

By al means, if you can apply (Early) and get accepted to the summer seminar, do so. It is one of the best experiences you will have. If you don't get selected, don't be discouraged. They only offer about 700 slots for summer seminar. 350 for each of the 2 sessions. And with 10,000 +/- applying for the academy, the majority never went to Summer Seminar. But it is a great opportunity to see first hand if you might like the academy. We had a girl go to summer seminar 2006. She was so excited. She came home and told her ALO and me that this is definitely NOT what she wants to do with her life. Shocked us all. Well, she is now in her 2nd year at Yale. Not a bad trade off. Most applicants know what they want. I just wish that summer seminar could be available to ALL applicants. Just not enough time to allow them all. But if you can apply, definitely go for it. later.... mike.....

Good luck to all those applying this year. Competition is always very tough for Summer Seminar with the limited number of slots available. My son applied last year (on the first day the app was available on-line) and did not get in. He was a bit depressed for a day or so but persevered. Today, he's received an LOA for Class of 2013 and just found out yesterday he has a nomination from Sen. John Warner (VA). We're hoping the Appointment will arrive before the holidays. Needless to say, he's elated now. Key message...keep persevering if it's your dream.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to get a taste of what the Air Force Academy is like. I absolutely loved and enjoyed the experience (especially since it was the first time my parents let me travel all by myself. :shake: )

DEFINITELY get it done early though. I didn't really think about going until about two weeks before the deadline. It wasn't a lot of fun scrambling around trying to get everything completed for it, but it was a huge relief when I was told that I got accepted.

Christcorp hit the nail on the head when he said that after you go, not everyone will want to continue their application. In my element (small groups of 12 students that they separate you into) there were only 3 people, including myself, who were convinced that the Academy was right for them.

This is a great opportunity to get a little taste of Academy life, and trust me, Doolie for a Day is an experience not to be missed. (If you refused to participate, they took you into a lecture hall and had you watch the Nancy Drew movie over and over and over again.)

Overall a great experience 10 thumbs up. :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:

And there will be others who attend USAFA Summer Seminar, convinced that the USAFA is THE place for them.....

....until they attend USCGA AIM, USNA NASS or USMA SLS and change their mind.

What is the earliest that one can be accepted into SS? Are we notified by email if we are accepted, or does our status change on the website first?

I called about a month after I sent it in to make sure they had it. I ended up talking to this really nice lady who has been accepting Summer Seminar for about 7 years. she told me that I would get in, even though it's not official. It made me feel a lot better! but all acceptances come at the same time.

They send out acceptances to SS by mail, but your ALO will know ahead of time. So sometimes your ALO will shoot you an email, or sometimes they don't. If you're really anxious, like I was, you can call your ALO, or simply remain patient.

How do you get in touch with your ALO? I have not come across anything concerning who my ALO is. Thanks

you may want to try to contact the admissions office to see who your ALO is, or ask your school guidance counslor - they will definitely know, because ALOs visits high schools 2-3 times a year (but you have to pay attention, or ask, because they are not the regular military recruiters).

Your ALO should contact you - USAFA started interviewing for SS last year. My son was interviewed by his ALO for SS, then again a few months later for his application.
