Hey guys,

I leave in the morning for summer seminar and wasn't sure if you guys had some recommendations in terms of items to bring? I followed the check list, however I was thinking that someone might have a useful item to bring.

Aside from that I heard that there was a ball/dance/something one night and if I should bring a nicer pair of clothes, a button up and tie, or suit coat or anything.

I have a laptop, should I bring it? They said they can't secure anything, wasn't sure your opinion.

Lastly, should I bring some snacks or is that frowned upon?

I wouldn't bring a laptop. Any extra time that I had was spent meeting people from the halls and such. You can bring snacks (I did) but it's no big deal if you don't because at the end of the hall there's a little place where you can buy snacks/candy/drinks.

You'll have a great time! I went two years ago and now I'm 19 days from I-day.

(I can't help with the dress clothes question. I don't remember getting dressed up, and we never had a dance or ball.)

Alright thanks,

I'll bring some snacks, and I won't bring any dress wear. The dance was a post on here, but I looked at the schedule and saw that it said there is a dinner on the last night for parents to come to if they would like. Aside from that I'll be doing PT or classes.

Will I have any time to go on runs? I'm a cross country athlete and my training is supposed to start on Monday.

Hey there! I went to Summer Seminar last summer. There is no dance or anything dressy. That last dinner where families are invited is generally a free-for-all for dinner. You generally won't have any time to go on extra runs. Spend that time asking questions and hanging out with people in your element. You're going to SS to learn about the academy and inform yourself for a massive life decision that you'll make afterwards, the running can wait 5 days. Have fun!

Thanks, That's what I figured. I followed the check list with a few exceptions. I'm both excited and nervous. I haven't really trained all to much lately, so it'll be interesting. I mainly want this week to help solidify my desire to attend the academy.

You can bring a laptop if you want, but you won't be able to access USAFA's network for the internet. As for going running, you can bring some workout gear, but to get through the gates onto the cadet area you will have to have a cadet with you. So bring it if you want, just be sure to talk to your cadre and ask them if they'll escort you through the gates. I'm not sure if that will work or not, but it can't hurt to try. Worst comes to worst, looks like you'll be doing laps through the halls of Vandy...
