Is it too late to apply for summer seminar now? I’ve been EXTREMELY busy completing merit badges, volunteering, and working on Boy’s Stage stuff in addition to school and extra curricular activities. I let the time get away from me now I’m freaking out. I know it’s not a requirement, but it would be a good experience and would give good insight.

I knew it was the end of March, but I also recall it being like 850 spots per session and that it’s highly competitive. I’ll probably end up applying tonight anyways.

If you haven’t submitted an application to NASS do it. I submitted my application last year to Summer Seminar 2 days before it was due and still got in. Give it a shot!
Less than a year later I’ve accepted my appointment with the class of 2022!

After attending the CVW in January 2018, I feel as though attending NASS won’t make a difference on my current desire to attend USNA. With that being said, I am opting out from applying to NASS because I’d rather partake in summer school, boys state, Boy Scout camp counselor, summer football workouts, and continue with my part time job. Will I be at a disadvantage with the timeframe when it comes to applying for an appointment? Will I be asked in my interviews why I didn’t apply? I’m planning on starting my preliminary application come early June; is this too late?

1) No, NASS is first and foremost an outreach program...not a pre-screening program. Frankly, if you are 1already committed to applying and attending USNA, you aren't the target audience.

2) It's always possible that your BGO might ask ... I don't, simply because far fewer of my candidates don't apply or attend NASS than do. If asked, your rationale above is just fine.

I'm assuming that you are interested in Summer Seminar as a precursor to a potential application to the USNA. My ongoing recommendation is always use the USNA Admissions Site and admissions portal as your first (and best) sources of information regarding deadlines, requirements, etc. I'm always impressed by the depth of knowledge and the willingness of SAF members to assist others; but be careful on basing any important life decision on secondary (or higher order) data sources. IMHO.

Good luck, I applaud the efforts of any student who pursues an appointment to any of the service academies.

I'd jump on this as early as possible. . . which is before June. To me, what you want is to be recognized by USNA as a "candidate" before school lets out for the summer so that you can get your English and Math Teacher letters requested before summer break as well as getting the Guidance dept started on the transcript, etc. Getting that started before the summer gives you a fighting chance of getting to the admissions board in Aug/Sept which in my experience, is to your advantage.
