My son was selected for an AFROTC and AROTC scholarships from the October Boards. He probably won’t know what colleges he’s getting into until March or April as he applied Regular Decision to colleges. My question is whether there are opportunities over the summer, before he starts college, for any training or Air Assault, Airborne, literally anything at all that he could do this summer before starting freshman year in college.

No formal training but it's always a good idea to spend time getting in (better) shape. He could probably study ranks, insignias, customs and courtesies, and history online.

Lift/run with intensity, study common topics in the ranger handbook, strive to stand out physically and mentally.

No opportunities before college commences, however, he should be ambitious and work to put himself in the position to earn one of those opportunities you listed for the following summer.

Best of luck to your son.

Building on the great responses above: The Army isn’t going to invest further in an incoming freshman until said person proves themself. Hence, no big-ticket training such as Air Assault School or Airborne School until the person has spent some time in school, with the unit and with the cadre. During freshman year, they’ll learn more about — and have opportunity to apply for — these specialized programs. And at that point, the Army will have more information on which to base decisions for acceptance. Selection to the schools is competitive, so cadets should start working hard from Day 1 of college.

any particular workout program you might suggest?
Work on sit ups and push ups. Run and then run some more. I wouldn't train to become a sprinter or marathoner, but they have to pass the contracting PT test.

Assuming he was selected in October guessing a 4 yo AD. Congrats to him and your family. He needs to be ready within the first couple of weeks to pass the contracting test once arriving on campus.

This probably won't be at 2pm either. I believe my son said they had to be in formation by 6am so it will be an early and long day.

The winning part is over now. The battalion will expect him to show up ready to go.

Depending on the battalion at some point over the semester he will need to swim in the pool.

I really appreciate the information. Thank you so much!!! I wonder if there’s such a thing as summer meetup groups for training

Perhaps your son could try and meet up with some of his peers by communicating over a Facebook C/O 2026 university group.

I would recommend he focuses on mastering running the 2 miles, hand release pushups, and leg tucks (a few ACFT events that can be improved by putting in the work). In addition I recommend he starts some sort of lifting programming (Jeff Nippard and AthleanX would be great starts).
