When is an Army ROTC cadet able to go to Airborne, Air Assault, etc? And what are all the options available?

Typically you are able to attend one of these summer training schools the summer after you complete your sophomore year. There have been mention of some cadets that were able to go between their freshmen and sophomore year. A lot will depend on whether your school allows freshmen to attend or not, a lot of schools do not.

You can also get a slot after LDAC if any are available.

There are other opportunities such as CTLT that you can do after LDAC.

Freshmen can apply for CULP and attend after their freshmen year.

The schools available vary from battailion to battalion, some will have school slots different then others.

Just remember, getting one of these slots can be very competitive. Where you are on the battalions OML will determine whether you receive a slot. My son's school has a min. PT score to even be considered. Not everyone gets a slot for summer training schools, some go all 4 years never getting one. Keep your grades up and yout PT score high to give yourself a chance. Some larger schools have large MS classes making it even more competitive.

Talk to your school and see how they work the summer training schools and when your eligible to go and how they pick the cadets, they will have the best information since it does vary from school to school.

There are a ton of different things you can do over summer as an ROTC cadet. One of my roommates for next year is currently at Army Scuba school. Another one is heading for Mountain Warfare School soon. Airborne slots were low this year so I believe we have maybe half a dozen going. Cultural immersion is big and my unit has cadets going all over the world for it. Most of the nursing and engineering majors will go do an internship for an army post somewhere in the world. In addition to these, you have Northern Warfare, Air Assault, CTLT, CULP, and many other things you can do with your summer.
