Sunday phone calls

Hi MikesDad. No band company too. We are Richard's parents. No call yet. Does your son have more than one roomate? Our son has a roommate Zachary. Wish we could get the names of kids in Band co. parent's too.
We are Deborah and Stephen Kern, Fox Point, WI

Cool. Richard is learning tenor drum. Never played an instrument in band, but tried a cello in 3rd grade. Musically inclined vocally. He'll be fine there,

I got the call about 1/2 hour ag

Yes.....He called First Company, I'm in Florida. The call was NOT 5 minutes by any stratch of the imagination! He had trouble speaking at first, I heard tears but he's not one to cry. After that he said he's good, he said he doesn't need anything, he's not hurt, he said he's gonna make it and is there to stay and told me not to worry! Lots of I love you Mom's....I feel better and am so proud of him! Irritated with the system of the time frame and noise factor. I could hear other kids talking more than mine, DI's srceaming and the short time.....of well...it is what it is I guess? I know they have ben doing it that way for a hundred years but still it was almost torture.....hearing in his voice he wanted to say so much more and couldn't....

Still waiting for phone call here in Oregon. My son is in Band company and plays the sax as well! Have phones in my pocket! Do you know how many kids play the sax? I saw three in one of the more recent photo's. I'm sure I'll learn more when I get that long anticipated call.......

Just got our phone call (4th company). Aaron sounded tired and hoarse. Said the flu is going around and he rolled his ankle so no running or marching.
X rays on tuesday if he is not better. He is glad he made the decison to be at KP. DI in the background counting down the time. He said KP is harder than he thought it would be.

Got the call at 9am this morning, son is in 4 company. Said he was doing okay - days went by fast but week went by slow. The 5 minutes flew by. He called on some phone the DI had given him, not his own cell. No time to ask about math test, swim test, bank account, etc...but he sounded pretty good, says he and his roommate help each other out, and mentioned cold/flu seems to be going around. DI's were in background, counting down time. It was great to hear his voice, and I am already looking forward to next week, which right now seems a long way off.

saw that hubby lgottliebdds beat me to the board. Sounds like camp/convention voice. He is tired and feeling like he may be getting the flu. Wants us to bring him a pillow and a blanket so he can keep his rack better. DI was counting down in the background. He also told us he plans to bring us some mids for Thanksgiving which I am very excited about. The more the merrier. He is happy there, which is what I care the most about. I hope they ae pumping him with OJ to keep the flu at bay. Overall the call was great, I think that it wasn't really 5min. On the good side I now have the rest of the afternoon to relax. He also said that he loves sailing and the waterfront.

Hoarse & clocking in at 4:59. 1st Co.

Got our call right before 1 p.m. Eastern time. Sounds hoarse and tired. Not real talkative. I could hear his eyeballs roll w/ every question I asked  He was calling from his room and you could tell he was watching his time closely and someone was close by. So jealous~a friend from USNA talked w/ her DS for almost 30 minutes last week.........

He's working on his second letter. Said he was doing ok, 1 roommate from Long Island, math test was ok, liked sailing and being in the pool and didn't want anything right now. In his first letter, he said that he enjoyed the pool and cleaning. When I questioned him about cleaning, he said he really did like it. Wish I had known that for the last 18 years!

He did mention that the Mets game is no longer on the schedule due to budget constraints.

Well~I have a week to come up with questions :thumb:

Got our call too. I feel a little better after reading about everyone else's calls. Our DS sounded flat & didnt say much. Now I realize maybe it was b/c he was choked up. Said he was fine but didn't sound it. My husband got him talking abt sailing, swimming & shooting range. Maybe I just didn't ask the right things????? It felt like a short 5 min but could have actually been 5.

My first company son said on a scale of 1-10 his experience was a 5 which I surmise seems to be a lot of highs and lows. Connection was terrible. Lost the call. He did call back. Had a good day yesterday as they took a boat ride up to the Statue of Liberty. Said the food was not bad. He is not hungry. Said he gets in trouble once in a while. My husband said for what and he said "just being me".

Third Company plebe calls home

Just received the call at 2:30 pm eastern standard time!
Our son sounded wonderful, very grown up. His call seemed rehearsed, he spoke quickly and told us how much he enjoyed the water, physical training and food was ok. I think he may have heard through the grapevine that time was limited so he didn't take a breath! He did say that he was looking forward to Parent's Weekend. We were cut off, no chance for a good-bye.
Oh well, at least he sounded well and no bad news is good news to me.
Thanks for all of the blogs, they have kept me sane since 8am!!!!
Hopefully Company 3 are calling home as I write!!!:::thumb:

first phone call

Hi, we live in Colorado and got our call at 11:45 MT. Son was subdued also, said it was hard, could hear him wavering, but he stated that he will make it. He said that he had lost his voice earlier and hearing about the flu, now I am wondering. We did our best cheer-up possible and he seemed better. He very much enjoys the waterfront and the sailing. He felt very good about math test and we found out that IT is intensive training.

He said that he was by himself in his room but he kept counting down the minutes of the phone call.

He is in first co, 101, presently in the 2nd company dorm but was informed he will be moved back to first company dorm on friday.

Only request for after indoc was a fleece sleeping bag for on top of his bed.
They have them at walmart and ll bean (item GL48722) $24.95. 800-221-4221. Trying to not plug ll bean but I want my ds comfortable. They are going to delay shipping until Thurs so that he doesn't get into any trouble.

Hope that helps you out.

Well....no call yet ..... Back in 1991 wife was in labor over 18 hours with him, so I guess here we are again.....hopefully, he will get permission to call soon. In the meantime, while we wait, it is good to see the excitement in the posts of calls already received

I had a call from my son,1st Co. He sounded fine, hardly a voice left from yelling so much. He has 2 roommates and says he loves it. We had a full 5 minutes.
He is in 1st Co. His borther was in 4th Co, '07. I miss them both, as the oldest is sailing down the Suez Canal.

Try to be patient, when my oldest was in indoc our call arrived @ 6PM!
Maybe the DIs tire after awhile.

Still no calls from Band company? Maybe they are practicing or something lol! 32 hour labor with my son during record breaking cold temperatures. We lived in the mountains at the time so it was 15 below and an 80 mile drive to the nearest hospital
