Super Bowl for Service Academy Grads

It appears that like d3 football players, Army hasn’t produced a super bowl ring. ;)

Au contraire mon ami......London Fletcher: Football John Carroll University (DIII) who played for the Rams the year they won it.

LOL I stand corrected. He was darn good too ... I knew a player from D3 that was on a practice squad.

So JCU 1, Army 0. ;)

Football players go to West Point to be soldiers, not pro athletes. And they are quite successful at that.

....and yet still, Army keeps winning football games. Its almost like divine reward for selfless commitment.
Must be new.
My kids talk big smack. “West Point always wins at home.”
“We always win Army/Navy.”
They have yet to learn what a fickle mistress Army football can be.

Otto Graham won 7 NFL Championship Rings. That's what the Super Bowl was called before it was the Super Bowl.

He was USCGA Head Football coach for 9 years.

Wrong. London Fletcher has a Super Bowl ring (Rams over Titans in XXXIV). He was the D3 Linebacker Of The Year at John Carroll.:hammer:

I have been a West Point dad for three years now. All I can say is "it seems pretty easy to me". LOL.

Then you must remember Air Force's big win there in 2016! Jalen Robinette ring a bell?

Boy, let me think. Its so long ago. I remember last years game, as I was there. That was a fun one; well, for Army fans it was fun. And I remember the year before, when Army took AF out in Colorado Springs. I really enjoyed that one. I know I was at the game against AF in 2016; but no, I cant remember a thing about that game. Must have been entirely uneventful.

Lets talk more about those games in 2018 and 2017 though. What excitement, tradition, pure football. Yes, I remember them very well.

Think hard, the score was 31-12 & the game wasn't really that close. The bride & I drove up to West Point for the game (& stayed overnight at a B&B then visited FDR's home in Hyde Park.) I have to admit that the stadium had a worn out feel & look compared to Falcon Stadium. It was right before the presidential election & all I saw was Trump signs on the lawns. I said to the missus, "Maybe this guy has a chance."
On a sadder note, one of Army's football team members recently died in a car accident going home to NYC & his # was displayed predominately.

I also ran into the AF Coronal who, after the Labor Day weekend's AF Homecoming game on decided to hold his own vehicle checkpoint & personally talk to every car forced to stop exiting the game! I was so mad that when he approached my car I thought he was a cadet (he was in short sleeves & his collar brass looks just like a cadet's to my untrained eye) I was ready to unleash some choice observations. At the last second, I saw he was an older man, DD said he was a Colonel & was able to respectfully hold my tongue. But I did entertain the thought of stopping him from wherever he was going in Mitchie Stadium, you know, just to talk... ;)

Nope, still doesn't ring a bell. But if you want to talk more about the last two years, I have perfect recollection; tremendous games!

Surprised you didn't love Michie Stadium. It having been deemed one of the top football game venues in the country, I'm sure you are in the small minority who wasn't bedazzled.

It is nice though that you were able to spend time at historical and majestic West Point.

Isn't the really measure the commander in chief trophy? Air Force holds an impressive record against the other two academies since this award was established in 1972.

Team Trophies Last Win W L T Pct.
Air Force
20 2016 60 34 0 .638
Navy 15 2015 49 44 1 .527
Army 8 2018 31 62 1 .335

Don't y'all worry none . . . soon it will be back to normal with AF cleaning the slate and Army and Navy playing for second . . . just like it should be . . . ;)

Take a deep inhale. Going to be holding your breath for a while.
