Sure is Quiet

As of yesterday, the Admissions Facebook page has the 2015 class at 1,048. It would appear that the next few smaller incoming classes will be somewhere well below 1,000 at graduation.
Clearly it seems as though 2015 will be below 1000. I'm just speculating on how far below that number USAFA is willing to go with 2016. Of course I'm also just guessing that they even want 1000 from each year's class eventually commissioning.
FWIW - my son was told a couple of weeks ago that there are more cadets in the class of 2012 scheduled to commission than there are currently in the entire class of 2015.
What impact does smaller class size have on the functioning of the Wing?
With all the current dorm construction it will probably just mean that more 2nd degrees will be in 2 man rooms. Might also take some of the pressure off the sponsor program.

Class sizes really don't affect the wing operations at all. If anything it means preparing less food and lower utility bills lol. The current size of the wing is unusual when I had talked to my 07-09 upperclassmen while a cadet. 2006 only graduated 860 or so IIRC. I remember us being a bit surprised at the size of 2012 and 2013 as it started to feel like the dorms were exploding with people. The larger wing along with construction in vandy made living conditions much more crowded than we in 2010 were used to our first two years there.

As hornetguy and aglages said, probably the biggest impact will be rooming in Vandy. Not all 2*s in my squadron have 2 man rooms, and those of us that do can thank a smaller than normal freshman class (21 4*s in the squadron). Last semester, the majority of 2*s were in a three-man setup. Not normal. So far as I can tell there are two more sections of Vandy to be renovated (not including the current section). It'll be interesting to see how rooming will be alleviated in the spring semester of 2013, when they hopefully finish up.

A small effect could be the number of CQ hours 3*s have to sit. I sat probably an average of 8 hours a week last year. That was with about 30 3*s in my class. If incoming 3* classes are in the mid-20s, it'll be that much tougher to fill the CQ schedule.

Eight hours?! I remember making the CQ schedule when I was a 3 dig and we were doing 5-6 hours per week. That was with 5 ICs who sat next to nothing and a total of around 25 of us in the squadron.

I know my daughter chose to sit Wing CQ instead of Squadron. Even so, the 3*s in her squadron sit approximately 8 hours a week, which was up from the beginning of the year (thay have lost at least one 3* this semester). From what she has said the IC's don't sit any hours at CQ. Not completely sure how accurate that is, just what I heard.
I know that she will be moving one more time after Christmas break (moved last year at the same time, same reason), her squadron is one of the last to be renovated. She is in a three person room. Space wise she will be glad to get into a two person room.

My son is a Falcon at NMMI this year. When Lt Gen Kelly and Col Benyshek travelled to NMMI last month to present the Falcon's with their scholarships, I think they said there were currently 80 kids still in the program at the 5 participating schools. Historically, I believe that 98% of the Falcon's receive appointments.
You're correct.

I just didn't know the total number of Falcon's so I was guessing just to give an "example" for folks to ponder with.

Getting technical again and I apologize for the ignorance...sitting for CQ?
Thanks for advance!

CQ=Charge of Quarters. Kind like an information desk in every squadron. Manned during the day and evening everyday.

Thanks for the link and wishes Dad! And, yes I am...I have learned so much valuable and useful information from this forum. Y'all are great...thanks for educating us neophytes.

i understand the process is even more competitive this year but ds recieved his LOA last year at the end of October. He was on the first part of the list that was compiled - he had an early LOA. The best and brightest candidates will be recruited by other schools so i still think the AF will need to issue some LOA's to keep the kids they really want and let them know they are interested. ds is a doolie and doing well academically, physically, and militarily.... This past year has been quite an adventure= what you are dealing with now as you go thru the process only begins to prepare you for the challenges that both students and parents will deal with during your first year:smile:

Being new to this, I know I have a lot to learn but find it odd that the other two main SA's started sending out LOA's two months ago and USAFA has sent none with no inkling of anything anytime soon. Received the catalog but that just seemed to be a placeholder to let us know that there is really something cooking...we just can't smell it yet.

USAFA started the process quite a bit later than the other two and they seem to hold their cards extremely close to the vest.
