Surgery after being medically qualified.

I have a question regarding something my DS needs to have done. He has a top lip frenulum - it's a small attachment of his gum to the underside of his upper lip. It's been bugging him more lately and dentist has been suggesting we get it taken care of. Just wondering if we should wait on this ... it's a minor procedure done in the dentist's office - laser surgery if I understand correctly.

My advise from what I'm going through right now, is to wait. If it's not a mandatory surgery it's not worth the stress because you have to notify DoDMERB of any elective surgery; which, in my situation will more than likely have me medically DQ. So it's up to the Academy to pursue a waiver if they feel like I'm competitive enough. I wouldn't really wanna see your DS go through that after all the hard work submitting his package.
But again, that procedure may not be grounds for dismissal so he may be good to go if he does end up going through with it. I would contact DoDMERB for more info.

Thank you! Instinct tells me to wait - I think I'll go with the gut - he's needed this for years, a little longer won't hurt.

Wow. If that's the case then I'm very hopeful. They said I should be healed by end of May latest. Did you end up getting a waiver?

I did not get a waiver to enter c/o 2018, as I would have been in a cast on I day. I was disqualified for history of fracture and residual weakness for c/o 2019, but was granted a waiver when my doctor said I was fully healed.

Unfortunately I dint get in, I received my rejection letter on Monday. Though words can't describe the dissapointment I felt that morning, I'm happy to say that I'm currently on physical therapy and moving on with my plan B. I'm gonna cross rate and consider NROTC in the future once I get my bachelor's degree. I wish nothing but the absolute success to current and future candidates and families. It truly has been a life opening experience. Thanks again for all the support I received from this Forum.

Sorry to hear, Cmwalili1. I can tell you are still the optimistic person you were before, and that is wonderful!

Do you mean consider OCS once you get your degree? Have you looked into applying for STA21?

If you don't mind, what is your current Rating and what are you planning to apply to cross rate into?
