I'm a junior in high school right now and today I found out that I need surgery on my ankle to tighten my ligament. In January, I tore 3 ligaments in my ankle during soccer. I'm trying to schedule the surgery in December so that I should be ready to start playing again around May.
I was wondering if having the surgery will cause problems with being cleared by DoDMERB. The surgery is called a Brostrom procedure.
Thank you for any information!:)

You need to report the injury/surgery to DODMERB. Whether it will affect your application depends on whether you're applying to a SA or ROTC. For SAs, you must be able to participate fully in the summer activities (and be otherwise medically qualified or in receipt of a waiver). If you haven't sufficiently recovered, it will be a problem.

I can't speak to ROTC.

The above said, the most important thing is to do what is right for you from a medical standpoint.

Thank you so much. I should be recovered completely before my senior year starts. I will definitely report the surgery to DoDMERB.
