Swab summer schedule 2022

All available information should be here. https://www.uscga.edu/2026/ Check out all the material, including the Cadet and Parents Handbook, as well as the Day One schedule at the bottom.

Not sure specifically what you are looking for, but this is a start.

In addition, to see what the Swabs are doing during Swab Summer, check out the “Pduddy pics” Facebook page once Swab Summer starts.

But generally the details are not published because the uncertainty, the losing track of days and falling completely into the moment are part of the process. I bet the average swab has no idea they change cadre at the halfway mark, but the shock is valuable in its way. Same with a lot of the other stuff that pops up (or doesn't) because I think they want them to lose a little bit of hope in spots and to persevere in spite of it. There's more than a little psychology involved in this, and they've been doing it for a long time. Trust the process, and leave some mystery for the moment.

But yes, watch PDuddy and maybe form a messenger channel for your company parents to compare notes and share pictures. (There's very little communication across company lines during the summer so it makes for smaller, friendlier support communities during the summer.)

Will there be opportunities between the conclusion of Swab summer and the beginning of school where parents can drop stuff (like printer and whatever else the cadet asks for) off? Or it's best they just buy whatever they need from the onsite store or local retails? Thank you.

Two answers: Amazon is great for this sort of thing. Your newly minted adult can choose what they want and have it in their hot little hands in a matter of days. Otherwise, yes you can visit campus: they can get some time off at Labor Day and Parent's Weekend is in early October this year. But if they Uber or know folks with a car they can frequently get off campus long enough to hit Target or Best Buy on weekends.

So Amazon packages are allowed? I was under the impression that the package they could receive couldn't be larger than AxBxC? Or that rule is only for swab summer? Thank you!

That is only for swab summer. After that, they can receive packages without restrictions in size or number. The mailroom can still get backed up though and still has limited hours.

The mailroom staff is small and they get really backed up at times, especially right at the start of the school year and in January when they go back after winter break, so I learned not to send food or anything urgently needed at that time. All packages go through the mailroom, even UPS or Fedex. If you are close to campus, your cadet will be able to tell you when they will have time to accept dropped off items. For a special food treat we have sent to parents of a local friend of my cadet, and they were happy to deliver.

I think my question could belong in this thread. Do the Swabs get a 4-5 day leave between Swab summer and the start of school?

Got it! For some reason we were thinking he was was able to come home for a few days between Swab Summer and school start. So their first leave is Thanksgiving or Christmas?

That week before the semester starts is called CAP week (Cadet Academic Processing). The cadets meet with advisors, get their schedules for classes, and have other processing and training/information sessions during that week.

There is almost always a long weekend after cap week. Friday at lmo til Sunday at 1800 depending on where you live your cadet could come home or you could go to them.

Do Swabs get access to email during swab summer, or is their only outside communication written letters?
