Hello all,

I'm planning on attending CU Boulder next fall on an AROTC scholarship. I know that the first year of scholarship benefits do not result in a service commitment, meaning I can leave the program penalty free before the start of my sophomore year. I also know that NROTC offers 3 year programs for students joining as a sophomore. If I decide I would rather be in the Navy, is it permitted for me to compete for an NROTC 3 year scholarship while participating in the AROTC program? Would I have to take Naval Science courses my freshman year to be considered for a scholarship?

Thank you in advance.

You could apply. You do not need to take Naval Science classes freshman year in order to apply.
Your best bet to get an NROTC scholarship is to abandon AROTC and enroll in NROTC as a college programmer. That being said, I understand that walking away from a scholarship freshman year is hard.. nor am I sure it's wise.
