I also believe in nothing ventured, nothing gained.
--Hah, if you venture excuses, then you will see a worse outcome than if you had just accepted your failure at USAFA. Most of the assumptions I made are very likely applicable to the OP.
You apparently cannot read very well since my post said NOTHING about excuses and agreed with your post to the extent that it advocated the Basic to be in taking responsibility for his actions. That said, it IS possible that there were OTHER contributing factors that resulted in his situation. And I'm sure you learned at USAF or elsewhere what happens when you "Ass u me" All I know of the OP's son, is that he, like you, worked hard to get his appointment and received one. That he is human and makes mistakes, like you did when you were truant for whatever reasons. That despite your mistake (or perhaps the truancies were intentional) your appointment was not rescinded and the opportunity to succeed at USAFA remained. My position is, that the son IS in quite the predicament and the stress today must have been off the charts...I can only hope that despite his mistake (or his intentions) that IF he truly WANTS to keep the appointment, he is permitted to do so...I'd hate to think this one mistake is his doom. That said, it could be and his attitude after will determine what KIND of human being he will be.
