Hello:

I am in a major dilema.. As a current junior we started to pick our schedules.. my schedule is looking like:
(DC = Dual Credit)
DC College Algebra/Trig
DC English IV
DC Art History
DC Biology
DC Govt/Econ
YR4 Band
Animation

Leadership wise, I was a trumpet section leader for this past year, I volunteer at our local arboretum and at our local zoo where I hold a leadership position (I basically teach younger kids about the animals at the zoo and the current worldwide conservation efforts to save them, and I train and teach some of the younger volunteers), I am also on our soccer team, and I got accepted to SLE.. I am curious whether I should take early release, or if I should continue to go for another class and help my rank (I'm in the top half of my grade, and I hold a 3.8 GPA). My SAT/ACT scores are great and my congressional region 85% grass and cows. I am also working on building a functional app and releasing it on the Google Play store. Anyways, would early release tank my chances of getting accepted to West Point, or should I take a blow-off class? Any help would be great!

Hi! I am a 2021 appointee and I have early release. I only take 4 classes at my school and 1 online. It seems it didn't affect my chances of getting appointment as 4 of the classes I took were AP and the other one was student government. But, every admission brief I went to for USMA stressed the importance of a high class rank. So, if you are not top of your class, I think you should really consider adding more classes to strengthen your rank. Just my two cents

Don't discount those grass and cows congressional districts. My son lives in southern Ohio in the hills and his scores smoked the fancy suburbs of Columbus. There are extremely smart, qualified kids everywhere.

DS has early release. Ap Calculus, ap chemistry, ap English, ap Economics. At school at 5:30 am for cross country practice, classes from 7:30-1:40 and works almost every afternoon 2-7 coaching youth soccer teams. Then has his own club soccer practices from 8-9;30.
