TAMU AROTC Scholarship questions

After the huge disappointment of not receiving appointment, my son was elated last night to see that he was awarded a 3-year ROTC scholarship. He quickly deflated when he saw that it was not to the school he wants to attend -- TAMU. Does anyone have insight into how easy, difficult it is to transfer that scholarship?

And, it seems that I read here to be careful in knowing each school's requirements for keeping the scholarship and that TAMU requires a higher GPA than others. Can anyone confirm?

Congrats to your DS on his scholarship. With regards to requesting a transfer to TAMU, there are instructions on how to do this on the portal. CC has historically been very accommodating on transfer requests.

TAMU was my DS's 2nd choice and he made a few visits and met with the staff. He absolutely loved the school. I don't know of any additional GPA requirement, but the TAMU AROTC staff could get you all of the relevant info. The requirements to stay in good standing with the Army are dictated by CC, not TAMU. Good luck.

Thank you so much.

EEBTTF is correct. My son is a 3AD currently at TAMU, and there is no additional GPA requirement there for scholarship purposes.

FWIW, coming from someone with no prior connection to A&M, we have been very pleased with how the school and the Corps are run.

One other point here. The average freshman GPA in the A&M Corps of Cadets for Fall 2020 was 3.05. So one inference from that is that they certainly aren't looking to have kids lose their ROTC scholarships.
