Deciding on a plan B, which is now plan A. What are the pros and cons with the two listed schools? Thank you for your input.

My DS got into both. They became his Plan A as well in the end. He LOVES TAMUG even though it is further from home. PM me if you have any questions.

Mod Note:
Moving this thread to the ROTC forum where it should get more exposure.

Which SUNY college? Or does SUNY not stand for State University of New York?

I can't offer much input about the units at each institution, but I visited SUNY Maritime recently, and wow, it has a gorgeous view of the water and NYC and a beautiful library and museum (located in the historic Fort Schuyler).

:)

First, congrats on your selection and choices! While my dd did not end up at suny maritime, it was one she considered and one we know many students at. Just some info that was recommended to her I will pass along. Depending on what you want to get out of the school in terms of majors, etc. it was recommended that it would be extremely challenging to do both nrtoc and the cadet corps, rather if she were in nrotc do not opt for the cadet corps. (this was even discussed with the officer of their unit when we were considering them). While there are students that have been successful at it, many have dropped the cadet corps simply because it was too difficult to manage both. Another bit of info for your consideration, week-ends the place empties out. Obviously if you are there for drill week-end, not a big deal, but for regular semester week-ends many students go home for the week-end, and many go to the city to explore. It is not the stereotypical college 'campus life' at the school. which is why the student camaraderie is basically united in the 'misery' of the challenging curriculum. That having been said, you will get a phenomenal education there, and I understand the nrotc unit is good, as well. best of luck in your decision!

At TAMUG it is opposite... If you are ROTC you MUST be in the Corp. Also all license option are required to be in the Corp.
