Hello,
I am about to go to MMI as a free-agent SAP (Naval Academy) cadet, and from going through the processes of applying to USNA, USAFA, and USMA last year I know there are critical steps long the way. What tasks should I have completed before I leave for MMI (August 10th, 2014)? And does the MMI staff help us through the application process (Both for the academies and for nominations)?
Thank you.

I don't have any experience with MMI, but it might be a good idea to call the school yourself and see what sort of help they offer. I went through AF Prep and the second application process was very bare bones. It could be the same with MMI.

It's good to be proactive, it's better to be proactive with primary sources of information.

Good luck and take care!

You drive the application process.

There is plenty of support at MMI related to the process, as well. There are folks there who understand the different academies and their respective requirements for application completion.

You drive the application process.

Welcome to MMI! You are going to have to do the legwork, but you'll have several people following up on you. Your chemistry instructor is also your advisor, so you'll have almost daily contact with him. If you're running into any problems, you can talk with him and he'll be able to help you out.

Make sure you start your nomination process over again. This week might be a good time to contact your senators' and representative's home offices to get the ball started (if you haven't done so already). You may be able to carry over your previous file, but it's likely you'll have to make up a new one, depending on the nomination committees.

Once the portals on the various academies web sites open up, start the application process again. Contact your AOs to see if they can carry over your files from last time, but you're going to want to submit new essays (since you're going to have more practice writing!). You can do that in Marion, so there's no rush there.

One more thing you can do before you get to MMI is schedule to take the SAT and ACT. MMI is a test site for both tests, so you can make your reservations now. I recommend you take at least the December test since it'll be at the end of the semester and you'll be at your peak academically, but you might want to schedule tests in October and November as well.

Good luck, and I'll see you next week!
