Hi, I was appointed to USMA this past weekend, and filled out and submitted my tattoo form. I was planning on getting a tattoo in April to commemorate my faith as well as a close friend who passed away. The tattoo is also planned to fit within Army regulation. My question is how would I go about notifying West Point of the tattoo by R-Day, and is it a good idea to get it at all.

Search for "tattoo" on this forum. You'll get a hundred hits on threads just like this one.

My opinion: it's not worth it. Wait until you're at the academy and you know the regs inside and out. Do you want to risk your appointment over it? Can't it wait a year?

You're completely right, appreciate the input and advice

As a USNA grad with my fair share of tattoos... don't do it now. Wait. There is no rush to get one. Wait until you get to USMA and know the refs inside and out.

Tattoo memo on the portal is your guide. It's all clearly spelled out. Tattoos are such a part of life of your generation and at WP they are everywhere and the regs seem to have actually relaxed on them even this year. That being said, listen to what others have said before my post. Why risk it? It can wait. But then again you decide. Going to the academy does not mean you stop thinking for yourself. My 2 cents.
