Teacher evaluations and recommendations

In your online portal, there should be a link to request your teacher(s) to submit an evaluation. They get an email from USMA with the details. Talk to the teacher, ask if they are willing, and then submit through the link.
Ok i will see if there is a link for that in the portal. Thank you

I believe, although I could be wrong, that we do not have access to everything on the portal until July 1st at the earliest.... That being said, should ask all the teachers I will need to fill out the SOEs before school ends or at the beginning of the next school year?
Yes you should!! One of the chalanges of the application process is getting teachers to cooperate while on break. Some feel they have no responsibility at all during break, others are just hard to get ahold of or are unavailable. I would ask them, get their summer email address , and brief them on what to expect. (BTW , it kind of like an online survey, and I wouldn't hesitate to tell them you would appreciate a little love with their responses). Lastly, I would emphasize how important these evaluations are to you and your life's path.

Another suggestion is , assuming it is a teacher who likes you, ask them to do an moc letter of recommendation to submit for those applications as well. I would ask several teachers, and then provide the addressed and stamped envelopes as well. You can mail them yourself. My son told them that he wasn't sure which moc's want which teachers, and thus advised each teacher he may or may not send every letter. He was then able to pick the best letters to send each moc.

These recommendations apply for administrators as well.

BTW, some folks want to write there own letter, others would rather you put one together for them to sign. That is best case scenario, and take advantage of it. Give yourself a fantabulous recommendation. Talk about specific instances, and what a great character you have. If the teacher doesn't like it, then it can be toned down. Some may disagree with this, but presumably the teacher thinks enough of you to make that offer. Just make it a good letter, and keep it honest. Don't make stuff up at all, but don't leave anything out either. Having said that, I would keep them all to one page.

If you go to the United States Military Academy page in the SA forums, you will see several pinned posts of information pertaining to admissions or other things that are useful for kids applying to West Point. They are called "stickies". Buff81 "stuck" them up there.:thumb:
Thank you. I see them ...

Hello. I know that I am supposed to acquire recommendations from my math, science, and english teacher. Can I ask for a recommendation from my History teacher instead of my English teacher? Is one more heavily weighted than the other and would West Point allow this? When am I supposed to do the teacher evaluation? When is this due? Is there a specific form for teacher evaluations? I am a junior in high school right now. Thank you.
Once your candidate portal opens, you will be asked to provide an email address for the required teachers and USMA will send them an evaluation form to complete. I think USNA is the same. You will, however, need "regular" letters of recommendation for Congressional nominations (or at least you do in some states) so you can start looking at your MOC nomination sites to see what you need and get those lined up.
