I have read a lot of forums that teacher recommendations (in high school) are needed. I haven't found any of those requirements on the USNA website. Can someone please explain this to me?

Here's what was explained to me at a candidate visit weekend in February-admissions said that if the letters of recommendation you get only tell them what they already know by looking at your transcripts and email evaluations that your teachers fill out, then they are not necessary. They said if you have someone that has known you a lot of years and can write about your leadership etc - that would be a letter worth obtaining. They said if you get a letter of recommendation from a four-star general that is a friend of your dad, but does not know you personally, it is useless. A coach that has known you a lot of years or a JROTC instructor, Boy Scout etc.- these would be good people to write a letter

So how does this work? When do I need letters of recommendations and where do I submit them through?

What Zandercott is talking about is ADDITIONAL letters of recommendation. Those are ONLY encouraged if it sheds light on something NOT ALREADY INCLUDED in ANY of your application documents.

For REQUIRED letters of recommendations...
Math and English teachers, from your junior or senior year (for those applying from H.S.), are asked to fill out an online letter of recommendation form that is accessible from the candidate information system (online application). It will be more apparent once you are designated an official candidate and have access to CIS. NOTE: NO substitution of teachers is allowed...it MUST be your Math AND English teachers FROM your junior OR senior year.

Format of recommendations?

USMA's recommendations are very quick, multiple choice, check-the-box, I'm told. Are USNA's also brief, or is the finely crafted teacher's letter (which will have to come later) written for civilian schools more what is expected?

Mostly the same for USNA, however, there is a prompt for teachers to provide free-response comments.
Candidates do not need to provide any template to their teacher.

It may be wise to give the teachers a brief heads up about the forthcoming email and to check their spam folders for it.

We had to ask our RC to send it twice to one particular teacher.

Good advice. That goes for all application documents that require you to enter an email address of another individual (teacher recommendations, activity records, academic record, and CFA).

Does anyone how to resend an email to a teacher? Correct email was entered but teacher did not fill it out and cannot locate it now in "in box". I've emailed regional contact but have not heard back and other academy applications have an option to resend. Any advice?

You can also try calling the USNA admissions line at Annapolis.

Another email can be sent to your teacher and it can be done by any admissions staff member (at least back in 2015 they could). Just have your candidate info ready when you call.

USNA Admissions: 410-293-1858,

Allow admissions up to a week to resend the email. Once that has occurred, have your DD reach out to the teacher(s) to see if they have received it (have them check the SPAM box). If they have not received the email, then I would have your DD call admissions back.
