I am a Naval Academy applicant and a NROTC Scholarship applicant. I remember reading somewhere (although I can't remember where) that the Naval Academy can reuse the teacher evaluations from your NROTC application for your Naval Academy Application. I have already had my 11th grade English teacher and my Math teacher fill out a NROTC evaluation, would it be possible for these to be reused for the Naval Academy's recommendations? I only ask because I would like to save my teachers the trouble of having fill out multiple forms.

Actually, what they mean is that those same teachers can write evaluations for the programs. If you look on usna's website you'll see that under teacher recommendations they ask for email addresses. They'll email your teachers the forms(They do that to ensure confidentiality and to expedite the application process). NROTC and USNA are different programs, with different review boards.

OK, so in the Naval Academy application under the Teacher Recommendations section it says this, "If you are also applying for a NROTC scholarship, the information contained in this recommendation may be shared with that program." So my question is: Is the reverse true? Can the information contained in the NROTC recommendations be shared with the Naval Academy? I don't remember if the NROTC electronic application says anything and I can't check because I already submitted it. Anyone know?

I just checked mine, and it doesn't say anything about it...it only asks if you are applying to other commissioning sources. If your teachers have already done the NROTC one, they shouldn't have a problem with doing USNA's...better to be safe than sorry.

I remember what you're talking about. I'm fairly certain that it isn't an actual sharing of information like you're thinking, but rather USNA gives your name and perhaps GPA or other simple info to NROTC so they can send you materials.

Here is the information provided to BGOs in June 2009 through our online information website:

In line with our [CGO] efforts to further our partnership with the NROTC, this year Math and English Teacher Recommendations will be shared between institutions. Therefore, students applying for both an Appointment to USNA and a NROTC Scholarship will only have to request one recommendation from both of their teachers. However, if a candidate submits dual requests, the recommendation received from the request sent by USNA will supersede any recommendation received from the request sent by NROTC.

That's legit. Good to hear they're trying to make the process at least a little bit easier to handle.

safe then sorry

Anon Mom,
I am a parent currently going through what you are.
I can only speak for my daughter and my experiences.
Personally, I asked the teachers to make two copies. I forwarded one to the Naval Academy and one to the NROTC officer we are assigned too.
I know on the Academy website is says that information will be passed down to the NROTC in the unfortunate event one is not accepted into the Academy, but after talking to the NROTC officer, he said he never experienced this during his tenure.
This did not sit well , so my daughter simply went back and asked the teachers for another copy.
Both the Academy and NROTC were sent copies certified mail.
For the little incovienance it is, it is a good insurance policy that neither entity is waiting on the other for documentation. Get all in as early as possible.
Our experience may be rare, and NOT the same as others.
Send them to both. My opinion.
