Does anyone know if the USNA provides new retainers when their existing ones are lost or damaged?

I thought you were supposed to have COMPLETED all orthodontic treatments before acceptance or reporting to USNA.

That should include retainers.

I know orthodontists will say that you should wear the retainers every night for the rest of your life. That's not realistic. If that's the stage of completion you are in, then no one is going to replace a lost or damaged retainer for you...except your home orthodontist--at your own expense.

Yes, son's been completed for a few years but he still wears a retainer three times a week to avoid shifting. I just wanted to get him a back up retainer to take along in the event something happened to the one he has. based on your post, I need to have one made here because they won't make him one there. Thanks for the info.

I assume it's ok to take a retainer with you and that they won't take it away?

The retainer is fine to have and I would even imagine he could get it replaced if lost however it would be to some inconveniance to his detailers, best advice don't lose it.
