Getting into A&M

ClickClack- I think we have talked before and I'm pretty sure you are from Texas. Here is what the admissions page from Texas A&M says about automatic admission for Texas residents outside the top 10%.

Academic Admits

Applicants qualify for automatic academic admission, if:
they are ranked in the top quarter of their graduating class, and
achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components; or achieve a composite ACT score of at least 30 with a test score of at least 27 in ACT Math and ACT English. Students must take the writing component of the SAT and/or ACT in order for the test score to be considered, and
have successfully taken all recommended coursework, and
meet the State of Texas Uniform Admission Policy, and
ensure all required credentials are received by the freshman closing date.

So, if you could somehow get into the top 25% of your school before graduation, it looks like your SAT scores would be good enough for an auto admission.

we have talked before Im pretty sure and I am from Texas. Working into the top quarter is the goal since I am close but I was wondering if anyone had gone through or had a child go through the review admissions process in the past. I do appreciate the info though.

My son was a review admit 4 years ago. He was awarded an Army Scholarship to Texas A&M in September of his senior year in high school and was admitted to A&M in November. We were told that if you received a military scholarship to A&M, and you met all the minimum academic criteria to attend, you would be admitted. That was certainly true for him.

If you have not applied for a scholarship, then you will be in the review process with all other review candidates. It is very important that you have shown an interest in A&M beyond simply submitting an application. Have you done any of the on campus visit programs such as Spend the Night with the Corps or Aggieland Saturday?

I have applied for an AFROTC scholarship and I am currently doing two Spend the nights with two different units to find the one right for me.

That is a great idea ClickClack. Let me know which units you are staying with and I can have my DD keep an eye out for you:thumb:

I'll be with Hustlin One at the end of this month and Gator 2 at the end of next month

Those are good units (actually, I think they are all good!), but my DD is not in those. You'll have a good sense which unit is for you by the end of those 2 visits. Smart move on your part.

Small world... my father was in Hustlin One 50 years ago!

Clickclack, sounds like you have done all the right things and you have excellent scores and stats. I think you have a good chance for acceptance. Make sure those Spend the Nights you are doing are mentioned on your application. If not, call admissions to add them.

Keep us informed about the process with both A&M and your AFROTC scholarship.

I made sure to put them on the App. I think it is great that your father was in Hustlin One, the whole reason I want to look more closely at it was the fact that it had been an old unit but recently recommissioned so I would be able to help bring some of that history back.

And I'll be sure to be keep y'all in the loop, Gig'em!
