Texas A&M C/O 2026 Thread

Attention Out of State Students (and parents)! We are expecting Texas A&M to announce very soon, that out of state students who join the Corps will not pay out of state tuition! This announcement should come as soon as next Monday! So don't give up, don't commit to another school just yet. Stay tuned for good news. I'll repost it as soon as it is announced.

I posted the text in a separate post, but it needs approval...maybe because it's copied and pasted?

It was deleted because it contained a link to a social media post, which is not allowed under the rules of the forum.

Sorry, if they are on ROTC scholarship. I'm not familiar with the programmer route, my son has the 4 year NROTC scholarship.

The entire tuition isn't waived, just OOS. I'll see if I can PM you the exact text. The post here is pending.
Hey thanks. A "college programmer" is simply a cadet who either has not qualified for an ROTC scholarship (national or campus award), or has chosen to pay their way as a volunteer, and has been accepted into the Advanced Course (Junior and Senior year ROTC) and signs a contract committing to commission at graduation.

My son received an email from Corps stating the same good news. So if you join and start off as an out of state college programmer without a national scholarship you will be eligible- previously a cadet had to earn a merit scholarship worth at least $4000.

My son just texted that H1 and 3 other outfits are being "disbanded" for next year. Looks like he's back to the drawing board with finding a top choice outfit, if the reports are true.
Yes they were deactivated. This happens from time to time depending on numbers and recruiting etc. Sometimes it’s just better to give an outfit a few years ”off” — my Aggie came into 11 after they reactivated so it’s not necessarily forever. As to PT - my Aggie chose 11 because of their academic focus - he is PT friendly and loves it, but said he was going for the education. He looks back now 3yrs later and said there is plenty of PT to be had in all outfits as well as Fish Drill Team, RVs etc. You won’t lack for wanting PT regardless. LOL. The study focus was far more beneficial to him; to each their own. Whatever outfit they choose or end up in, they will make friends who will marry them and bury them. It’s inevitable. Try not to stress too much over which outfit. they’re all the best damn outfit on the quad in reality.

Son has now been assigned to NSI 2. He'd love to meet some fellow fish before then. A few moms have created a group chat in messenger and I'm planning a zoom meet up for the kids. PM me if you're interested.

My DS plans on applying for AROTC Scholarship when the process opens in June. If he is awarded the scholarship, will this help with admissions to Texas A&M ? I understand that they are two separate processes but am curious if the ROTC or Core of Cadet program advocates for their potential future cadets.

I have heard that in some instances the ROTC departments have been able to help pull cadets who were bound for an alternate entry path straight on to main campus. That said, incoming Corps members offered Blinn TEAM admission live in the Corps, participate fully, and as long as they check all the boxes will fully transfer.

Having said all that, I'd be somewhat surprised if a national scholarship winner weren't offered full admission to A&M without any help. I'm sure it's happened that a national winner wasn't admitted, but I suspect it's pretty rare.

franknd, I reached out to the Office of the Commandant at A&M with that very question and here is what I was told:

1. The student would be considered a civilian during his/her PSA year at a satellite campus (Corpus Christi; San Antonio; etc . . . ) but did have the option of joining the ROTC program at that campus for freshman year. His/her ROTC credits could then be transferred to College Station the following year;

2. Assuming a student successfully completes his/her PSA year and transfer process, he/she is guaranteed a spot in the Corps sophomore year. He/she would have to go through the freshman Corps experience during his/her sophomore year, but would be considered fully "caught up" by junior year and still able to graduate with his/her class as if he/she had started out in the Corps at College Station during freshman year;

The three downsides I see are as follows:

a. If a student just barely misses the GPA requirement during his/her PSA year, then he/she is likely stuck at the A&M satellite campus for 4 years and will miss out on the Corps experience;

b. By going this route, the student will miss out on the camaraderie of going through the freshman Corps experience with the rest of his/her graduating class;

c. There is the whole nightmare of transferring any ROTC Scholarships to the satellite school during freshman year and then to A&M during sophomore year;

Right now, my son is leaning towards taking the "bird in hand" approach of going to Norwich or the Citadel (or to VA Tech if he gets in) where he knows he will be in the Corps during his freshman year no matter what. He is intrigued enough by the A&M PSA option, however, to still be considering it, which is why we would be very interested in hearing from someone who has taken that route.
Curious...what did your DS choose??

We heard that applying for the corps does help (of course, the student needs to meet entrance requirements), that info was more "off the record". There is a BIG push to grow the corps to 3,000 cadets.

@franknd Hoping things work out for you. His other options sound great. I tried to get my son to apply to VT, but I think it was too close to home.

DS is going to TAMU - class of 26! He is an engineering major and has been awarded the NROTC and AROTC scholarships. (AFROTC final board is released today, so that may be in the mix.) He's still working thru an AMI at DODMERBS so we will see how it all shakes out. He spent the night with the Corps last fall and is leaning toward H-1 if he gets the NROTC scholarship.
Did your DS end up Army or Navy? We're hoping to hear this week about outfits...my DS was really wanting H1, but found 2 other outfits he really liked.

That must have been someone else with the choice you are asking about. My son just finished his sophomore year in the Corps (AROTC scholarship). I have a rising HS senior who would like to be in the Corps, but we haven't crossed that bridge yet. . . .

Thanks for the response. My son is finishing his junior in HS right now and currently has 3.8 GPA with a 1240 SAT. He is retaking the SAT in June to try and increase that. I don't think BLINN would be an option as he want's to apply as a Poly Sci for first choice major. He also plans on applying early (Aug 1st) to TAMU and hopes to get on the Oct boards for ROTC interview. Additionally he has been selected to attend Boys State in June. Not sure if that helps his app but it's something he wants to do as he has a strong interest in Politics.

My son was told Boys State is huge on the resume...he attended virtually (bummer for his year). Check the ROTC changes for tier 3 majors. My son is a PS major (tier 3), but there are changes for the application in 2022-2023. I believe there is a post about it on the forum. Definitely apply early!! My son missed the first board because he couldn't schedule the NROTC interview in time, but received his scholarship on board 2.

There is a ton of info here! So helpful. I wish we'd found it earlier, but glad we found it when we did!

I your son at Texas A&M ?

DS is NROTC headed to SNWC on Monday- how do we understand the differences between units, the profiles, etc. Anyone willing to provide inside information would be appreciated.

My son is a fish this year. He is S-1. It is a Navy/Marine outfit that is one of the top in the Corps right now (at least that’s what he says). I do know that S-1 has been featured in some Corps activities. It is a very tough outfit both academically and physically. However, they hold SEVERAL leadership positions at multiple levels in the Corps. They also have several “uppers” that are given leadership positions in other outfits. DS spent the night with S-1 and that was the only outfit he really considered.

I’m not sure what you mean by “profiles”. Our experience this year is that a lot of Army outfits rank PT as a high priority. Air Force tends to lean more towards academics.

We truly feel that S-1 is the best of both worlds. EST (evening study time) is serious. PT is VERY tough. They also hammer drill practice. I have been impressed with the leadership training S-1 provides. DS is learning A LOT!

Rest assured, no matter which outfit they choose it will be “the best damn outfit on the Quad”. They will make friends like they have never had before. They will be challenged like never before. But, once they earn their “brass” they will feel more accomplished than ever before. The first semester is EXTREMELY difficult. We dealt with “sad Sunday” every week. By Thursday things were better because they were going to midnight yell or getting ready for weekend activities. Also, rest assured that as part of the Aggie family your Fish, and you, will have a support system like never before. I truly think it as good, if not better, than the service academies.

Feel free to reach out with questions.

Kevin
