Hello friends, I was recently accepted to my top school out of state at Texas A&M into their amazing engineering program with my top choice major. I am going into the Army, and I am also applying for the Army ROTC national scholarship. I applied for the Texas A&M application through Coalition and I recently received an email stating this,

Over 90% of our current cadets have earned a scholarship from the Corps and many others are on other scholarships from A&M. These scholarships range in value from $1,200 to over $4,000 per year. You must fill out the A&M scholarship application on Apply Texas and express serious interest in joining to compete for Corps scholarships.

I am searching on ApplyTexas and I do not see a place anywhere for a "scholarship" to apply for, just the general application which I was already accepted to.

In addition to this the email included a link to someone within the Corps who deals with scholarships I'm assuming stating I can express serious interest by emailing this individual.

If I email this individual what exactly should I say, I know it may sound stupid but I don't want to be like, yo, give me a scholarship!

Should I properly introduce myself, express my interest in the program, etc, and state I'm interesting, give a background??

I have no idea, any advice is appreciated!! (Sorry for the long post)

I think your proposed course of action is right on track. Be professional, amiable, and polite. ROTC personnel understand they are working with high schoolers. Starting the conversation now with your future leadership is one of the smartest things you can do

And congratulations!

the scholarship stuff was part of the initial application. hopefully you checked yes and it immediately enters you into the running. FYI if you earn $4K or more in school scholarships you are eligible for in state tuition. my DS is at Galveston and being in the license option at the Maritime Academy also earns in state tuition

also look into spend the night with the Corp offers... as ROTC you must be in the Corp.

My DD received notification of a Corps scholarship last week in her A&M Financial Aid portal (along with who the donor was), but I've been told they are on a rolling basis for dissemination.

Thank you! Turns out Son had the same thing and we didn't know it. Too busy waiting on other things. . . .

Anyone here know whether Corps Scholarships can be used toward room and board rather than tuition? IOW, I'm wondering if the Corps Scholarship amount would necessarily be deducted from an ROTC scholarship, or can you use both in full?

My son has a small Corps scholarship for now and is in the running for the larger Easterwood Corps scholarship. However, I didn't see anything in the financial aid portal that indicated it was restricted use.

My DS is in the same boat. 4YR AROTC to TAMU. My understanding is that the majority of the cadets in the Corps, get a scholarship ($1k-$4k/YR). I spoke to Financial aid when we were in College Station a few weeks ago and they stated that any additional scholarships can be used to offset housing or any other costs not covered by the 4-yr national scholarship.

Does anyone know when they make the decisions on the Easterwood Scholarships?

Easterwood Scholarship notifications are "by the end of March" per the email my son received on this topic.

DS got the minimum ($1200) on the Corps Scholarship. Very grateful for that. Every bit helps! With his 4-Year AROTC - is still puts the cost at $12-15k without transportation. That is still a lot better than the $60k that is posted for OOS students.

Bringing this back to the top. Has anyone received any TAMU scholarships other than the Corps Scholarships?

Is completion of the FAFSA application a requirement for the Corps Scholarship?

Great question. I don't think that it is. If my memory is correct you need to fill out the TAMU scholarship application as well as your expression of interest in joining the corps of cadets. That is for the Corps scholarship with ranges from $1200-4000 per year. For the other scholarships, I have no idea. Good luck.
