Hello.

My son was awarded a four year ROTC scholarship at TCU and Texas A&M. He is very excited for this opportunity and we are proud of him.

We live out of state and DS has not yet visited either schools. We understand how important it is to visit both schools, especially as I believe they offer very different college experiences.

In the meantime, I have scoured the Internet trying to find photos of the Texas A&M ROTC living facilities and I cannot find any. I am very pleased to read that they are recently renovated and that a learning center has been built.

If anyone has a link to photos of corps of cadets living quarters, I would love that.

Thank you.

I was under the impression that ROTC cadets live on/off campus at their own discretion, and there weren't any ROTC specific housing. Let me know if you find otherwise!

I write this with a smile, but I was under the impression they all had to live together on campus in ROTC-specific housing!!!!!

In general, ROTC students are not required to live together. However, for Senior Military Colleges like Texas A&M (and all others so far as i know) the members of the Corps of Cadets are required to live in on campus housing together. Here is some info on the Aggie quarters - http://reslife.tamu.edu/options/corps/

There does seem to be a few pics there.

Hey BBNC, I'm actually an Aggie graduate, class of '89. I can tell you a couple of things: 1) A&M is a Senior Military College, one of just a handful. It's a "full time" Corps of Cadets, of which ROTC is just a part of the story; 2) TCU is a fine school, and it's ROTC program is like the vast majority is the US: part-time, your wear your uni's only during class/labs, you're a "normal" student taking ROTC and prepping to get commissioned.

The SMCs are more like a USMA experience: all the Cadets like together, grouped into units that will stay together throughout college. They wear uniforms every day. They eat most meals together, have a strict chain of command, and do Corps of Cadet stuff as well as ROTC stuff. Their freshman year (they are call fish) is extremely regimented and pretty tough....it's a character building year. It's a whole life style, not just "going to college."

I loved it, but I STRONGLY recommend you guys visit and have your son do the "spend the night with the Corps" visit. I really don't know how you'll be able to make an informed decision without doing that. It's really an Apples/Oranges comparison between a SMC and a "normal" ROTC program.

I loved my time a A&M, and it prepped me for a success as an Armor officer, and the business world. I met my wife and best friends there. I entered the Corps as a 150lbs, nervous music major wannabe, and emerged as a strong, confident 2LT, and a pretty good leader. I loved it, but it's not for everyone, so please be sure to visit!

Here's the link to the Aggie Corps...great info. The facilities tab gives you and idea of corps housing, but no clear dorm pic. If I see one i'll post it for you.

My son did spend the night with the corps. He had a great experience and I would recommend it. There's also a class of 2021 corps of cadets Facebook group with a lot of valuable info. My son's Plan B Is Texas A&M.

Thank you so much for this link, it is exactly what I was looking for. Please believe me that I also searched TAMU website and the corps related links but somehow missed this.

Thanks again.

No problemo. I can't find the butter dish right in front of my face so I feel your pain!

If your son completed all his info on his Howdy portal to Texas A&M, it will allow you to see the new dorms. They are not yet completed, but are very nice. Don't worry about rushing to get a spot, because they have room for all corps. I am a graduate of A&M and it is a wonderful experience. It is a military college inside a college, so you live together, eat together, were uniforms everyday, and support each other.
