Does anyone know for sure what LMD is for Thanksgiving? My son's last class ends at 4:50 and he wouldn't be able to get one of the buses to the airport. I heard that they may be released at 12:00, but I'm not sure if that is accurate. We just want to get him home ASAP!

Every academic class is different. Tuesday is the last day. What time your class lets out is something that HE needs to ask his instructors about. It's not something ANYONE here has the answer to. If you were to text him and ask him to ask that instructor what the class schedule will be on that day, he will have an answer back to you faster than all the possible, perhaps, maybe, well it use to be..... answers that you will get here. This is a very simple question. Son asks teacher(s), teacher(s) answer son, son tells you, you arrange transportation accordingly. Hope that helps.

I thought I read somewhere that OPORD's for the Thanksgiving holiday would be sent to cadets around the middle of September?

Christcorps response would be accurate if, and only if, they don't make a wing wide adjustment to the schedule for that day.

I think that is what many people are waiting to find out. Until the OPORD is released, nobody will really know for sure if it will be a regular class day or a modified schedule.

At this point, I would be willing to bet that the teachers don't even know yet if it will be a modified schedule or regular schedule.

I agree with bandit. The schedule handed out at I Day said that they would be released at noon on that day. Then they changed it and made it a regular academic day and nearly everyone insisted that it would at least be a shortened day. I also read that we'd find out right after PW so have been waiting anxiously to make the reservations while the flights go up (I already made his returning ones for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, but not the home ones). He has the same issue with a late class and no flights to our airport if he can't be at Denver for a 5:50 flight - he'll have to spend the night at USAFA or in an airport somewhere. Or fly somewhere like Chicago and get in really late and we could go meet him and drive until 3am. :rolleyes:

People say "oh, just play it safe" but when the difference is getting home that night or not, we're waiting on something official. And he did email his prof about whether he'd have a lab that day or not (he has chem those last two periods) since his schedule for the day shows one (well, actually he has one every time) and hasn't heard anything back.

Plus he was saying different squadrons were telling them different things about how long after your class you'd be able to leave anyway - need to be inspected or whatever. Theoretically the last bus that afternoon leaves at 4pm, which creates another issue even if he wanted to take a later flight. I know one of the Parents' Club presidents sent an email to Barbara Guiterrez at AF, but don't know of any official news/OPORD's/ROE's for anyone yet. Tick, tick, tick!

It'll be a regular academic day, so you're released whenever your last class is done. The last class anyone could possibly have will end at 1630.

LMD

I know there aren't intramurals on fridays, would this be the case for that tuesday. Or is it likely that intramurals will go on just like any normal tuesday.

Thanks everyone for your input. It's not a simple question, at least not at this point. To first timers without any military family history, this is our first experience navigating the system that sometimes is an enigma. And, communications with the 4* is not always free-flowing. DS is waiting for OPORD and will also talk to teachers (he has last three classes back-to-back) about options.

I learned on another forum that the bus group (transportation?) has started a list. If there are at least 10 cadets needing a later bus they will add one at 6:00. Either I or my cadet will get his name on the list tomorrow!

I wish a few things:

1) someone else was paying for these "I don't know yet, Mom" tickets. They can get pretty pricey, especially at Thanksgiving (and especially when there are two to purchase :thumb:);

2) there was some discount for flying out of Colorado Springs, or for flying into underutilized airports across the fruited plain;

3) this year, that they didn't have to return January 2nd. :rant2: How about Monday the 3rd, or Tuesday???

Return to your regularly scheduled programming now.

Don't make a simple problem complicated --

For Thanksgiving break, just ask your cadet when his/her last class ends and book ticket accordingly.

There is no extra training on that day apart from regular class.

There MAY be wing wide 'early release', but you can't rely on that now.

Well your cadets have a pretty darn good income for college kids. You can always have them pay. Of course, they may decide that coming home isn't the best use of their money and opt for more exotic destinations :biggrin:

4 dig year, we always booked out of COS. However, since then we have consistently found it to be cheaper and more convenient to fly from Denver.

They have always returned on that Sunday. Why would/should this year be any different. They need that Monday for transition as many cadet switch roommates on that day.

yeah yeah... I was just whining (some things never change!).

I never know when my fencing cadet will be able to go.
