Finals are over, Sea Trials ( a one-day event AFAIK) are in a few days, and then the Herndon Climb. What do plebes do between the end of Sea Trials and the end of Herndon? What do they do for the 5 or 6 days between those two events? DS mumbled something about he thought they also helped with events during CW for the class of 2017, but he wasn't sure what they did- "This is all new to me too, Mom".

Admin stuff. Turn in uniforms for storage. Get stuff finalized for summer schedule. Figure out what they will need over the summer. Attend required briefings for summer training. Parade practice. Company meetings. Sell books. Start working on clearing out of room and putting stuff in storage for summer, to make way for the summer schoolers, transients, campers, NASSters, and incoming 2021 who will occupy Bancroft.

There is usually some inter-sessional leave, some days off.

Some will go to academic review boards, once final course grades are in, because of academic deficiency, and be assigned to mandatory summer school, which will re-arrange summer plans. Some will be separated. Some will decide to leave.

The hive will be buzzing. Your DS will get plenty of advice from experienced upper class.

And oh yes, he will buy or get gifted 3/c shoulderboards to put on at graduation!

Thank you, MJ. One question: Are the shoulder boards available at the mid-store? I went to their site typed "shoulder boards," and got a "Nothing matches your search" message.

Yes, at USNA uniform store, not Mid Store. You won't have been in there. There's also passing down of 1/c stuff to almost 1/c, 2/c to almost 2/c, etc.

Don't worry about any uniform stuff. Your DS has almost a year of this under his belt and will figure it out on his own, learning from upperclass and sharing gouge with classmates.

Capt MJ nailed it. They also will get a fair bit of liberty!

It's a fun time of year, exams done, moving up a year, looking forward to summer training and leave, making plans with classmates, feeling like you've got the hang of the place, walking around Annapolis on beautiful spring days, goofing off.

During his plebe year, DS, his roommates and several mid buddies spent several days at a beach house. Don't recall if it was between finals and sea trials, or sea trials and Herndon. This year DS and mid buddies left immediately after finals for a trip and said they had to be back on the yard before sea trials. Don't know how he got his 3/c shoulder boards last year. He took a photo w/ a mid buddy as newly minted youngsters and texted it to us. Never really thought about how they transition uniform wise from year-to-year, but they got this.

Sounds exactly right for down time.

The transition usually occurs at the Stadium on Comm Day, if that's where they are. About the time right hands go into the air on the field to take the oath, hands go into pockets in the stands to pull out the new shoulderboards. With the exception of a few mids who might graduate but not commission for medical reasons, or the handful of 1/c who might be on delayed grad in Aug or Dec (med, conduct or other reasons), they all walk out one grade higher. Nary a 4/c shoulderboard in sight.

Comment was "Dad get it correct". Like I would get them backwards or in the wrong position. Semper Fie.

You know officers aren't trusted to get them oriented correctly until they get left and right-facing eagles...all other collar devices up to that rank are interchangeable. [emoji6]

Since I only wore Chevrons was it pin to the front or back?
