Hello all,

I am a CC for the USMA class of 23 (I have an LOA + nom + 3q) and will definitely accept an appointment if I am offered one. My FFR has mentioned the Thayer Honors Program as a possibility while at West Point. From my understanding, plebes are selected for it after the 10th week of the semester and it continues for 3 1/2 years. It sounds like it assists in getting grad school scholarships for after commissioning, but I am unclear as to what being in the program involves (different classes, more opportunities, etc.) I could only find this page for it online: (https://www.usma.edu/excellence/SitePages/Thayer_Honors.aspx) but the page appears to be a couple years old and I am looking for update information. I also tried searching this forum for it as well but nothing popped up. Has anyone here (cadets, parents, grads) had any experience with what the program is like? I know the chance is slim as only ~20 cadets are selected per class, but I would just like to know more about it (how to get in, advantages/disadvantages, experience, advice, etc.) Thank you very much for your time and to all my fellow 2023 CCs, I hope to see you all on R-Day!

I don't know much about it since my plebe is very busy with his current schedule and I don't want to bother him. All I know that he thanks me to keep him ahead of most of the classes which he did not appreciate during his high school years. Basically if you have time to take more advance classes with out damaging your grades then take them. The first week of Beast, you will be given chance to validate the AP subjects that you have taken in high school. If you pass, WP will automatically set you up with more advance classes. If you are master of all the AP subjects ( score of 5) you should not have any problem in upper level classes. Company TAC teams would monitor almost every move you make and they will know whether you are material for Thayer Honors Program or not. You can always ask them for guidance.

Thank you for your response. I will talk to my TAC when I get to WP.

More than likely there will be a Cadet or two in your company who is in the program and can help guide and mentor you also. I know someone has posted about it before in the USMA forum as I followed the thread because I had never heard of the program and was curious about it.

I searched for "Thayer" and couldn't find anything about it. Do you know when the thread was approximately so I can look for it?

I think it was more related to post grad opportunities than the Thayer program itself. It was probably in the last 3-4 months, but I could be 100% wrong.

Thank you. I will post a link if I find it.
